The pre-Hotel California years were arguably the best for The Eagles (though there were, thanks to Joe Walsh, some stellar future moments). Their mix of country, folk and rock had a harder, grittier edge and helped define what would become known as the Southern California sound. There was just enough of a country feel in the beautiful harmonies of "Best of My Love," to blur the edges between the genres. "Take It Easy" and "Lyin' Eyes" could easily have come out of the new Nashville school, as well. The twang that characterizes the guitar intro to "Already Gone" and the leads in "Witchy Woman" and "One of These Nights," also pays tribute to country's guitar greats. This collection houses a scant 10 singles, but not only does it illustrate the magic of the collaboration between Glen Frey and Don Henley, it shows the breadth of The Eagles impact on the many who would follow their lead.

This  recording was re-mastered from the Original Master Tapes. Out of all of the Eagles, Don Henley had the most successful solo career. After the group initially broke up in 1982, Henley released his first solo album, I Can't Stand Still. Although it wasn't as successful as an Eagles record, the album performed respectably, launching the number three single "Dirty Laundry" and going gold. Building the Perfect Beast followed two years later and established Henley as a solo star in his own right. Featuring the Top Ten hits "Boys of Summer" and "All She Wants to Do Is Dance," as well as the Top 40 singles "Not Enough Love in the World" and "Sunset Grill," the album sold over two million copies and stayed on the charts for over a year. Henley's third album, 1989's The End of the Innocence, was his most ambitious record yet, as well as his most commercially successful. The album sold over three million copies and stayed on the charts for nearly three years, launching the hit singles "The End of the Innocence," "Heart of the Matter," "New York Minute," "How Bad Do You Want It?," and "The Last Worthless Evening."

Henley reunited with the Eagles in 1994, embarking on a worldwide tour. The group released a live album culled from an appearance on MTV Unplugged called Hell Freezes Over; the record also featured a handful of new studio tracks. Hell Freezes Over was a major success, selling over five million copies by the summer of 1995. However, the group opted to take another hiatus during the decade's latter half, and Henley continued working on his fourth solo album, finally issued in mid-2000 under the title Inside Job. He then resumed working with the Eagles, contributing to the band's new studio album (2007's multi-platinum effort Long Road Out of Eden) and touring heavily in support of the project.

Joe Walsh is perhaps best known for his affiliation with the Eagles, but he has had success as a solo artist and has served his time in other bands.

Though he didn’t join the Eagles until 1976, he had been playing music since before he left University. He first appeared on vinyl in 1969, as part of the James Gang. He appeared on four of their albums between 1969 and 1971 and the band enjoyed chart success with “Funk #49” and “Walk Away”. After leaving the band, Walsh formed Barnstorm and they released an eponymous album which sold moderately well. Then in 1973 he released his own solo debut The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get and scored a hit with “Rocky Mountain Way”. After two more solo albums, Walsh took over for Bernie Leadon in the Eagles in time to make his debut on the hugely successfulHotel California album. Throughout his tenure with the Eagles he continued to make solo releases and enjoyed his biggest success with 1978’s But Seriously, Folks and its No.12 hit “Life’s Been Good”.

The Eagles split in 1980 and Walsh continued with his solo releases, but the sales were dropping off. During this time he toured with Ringo Starr as part of the All Starr Band and recorded an unplugged album with Dr. John. When the Eagles reunited, Walsh was there with them and has continued to be so ever since, up to the present day.
