KARKADON / HALA LAYA ... 7-inch, 45rpm single by THE DEVIL'S ANVIL musical direction and arranger FELIX PAPPALARDI. Original US promo pressing on COLUMBIA label (4-43817), from circa 1967. Bizarre funky and killer double-sider. A heady mix of hippie acid rock and middle eastern folk by an obscure group who played on the late '60s Greenwich village / New York underground scene. This is the promotional single gleamed from their Hard Rock From The Middle East Lp. Totally destroys the Israeli issue EP with inferior production sound. The insane vocals / thunderous beats / breaks and psychedelic guitars of KARKADON was comped on Finders Keepers by Andy (and Boney) Votel :) Future Mountain group guitarist, Steve Knight plays fender bass on KARKADON with Felix Pappalardi playing guitar / tamboura and percussion. The HALA LAYA side is also superb and features Steve Knight on guitar. Both sides are sung by Kareem Isaaq who also plays the oud. Great for DJs. Arabic / Turkish and Greek influenced psych with exotic and western instrumentation. Rare 45!!!

Musicians:

Kareem Issaq - oud / vocals

Felix Pappalardi - fender bass / guitar / tambura / percussion / vocals

Jerry Sappir - lead guitar / vocals

Mike Mohel - darabukka

Steve Knight - rhythm guitar / fender bass / bouzouki

Bobby Gregg - drums

Herb Lovelle - drums

Eliezer Adoram - accordion

Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG

Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG+ condition overall with hairlines and light scuffs. Light surface noises. Some soft pops / soft ticks (as you can hear on our soundclip). Booming production sound. Item will be housed in a plain white card sleeve with additional poly lined inner. Rare 45!!!
