Description

This is a Mint copy of the New Zealand version of the 12” 45rpm green vinyl pressing of The Cure’s ‘A Forest’, released in 1980.

This was the first 12” single ever released by The Cure and is much sort after amongst collectors because this green vinyl version was pressed in Australia by 7 Records PTY Limited for distribution in New Zealand by STUNN Records, whose owner Terry Condon was great mates with fellow Kiwi Chris Parry, who managed The Cure, hence the deal.

The label for both the A-side (A Forest) and the B-side (Another Journey By Train) were printed with the Australian catalogue number MS 416, so for customs reasons Terry had to have the ESP-103 sticker overlaid.

The other small error on the A-side label is the duration, listed as 6.42, which is actually 5.50. This was because A1 (The Final Sound) isn’t listed and is a pressing error; therefore, the 6:42 playing time printed is the total for side A.

This was the original version issued in the plain white cover.

  • Matrix / Runout (Side A label): MSD 421 (A)
  • Matrix / Runout (Side B label): MSD 421 (B)

This 12’ single in its original plain white cover has never been played and stored in a vinyl sleeve in a climate controlled room since 1981 and was only taken out of its sleeve today for the first time to be photographed, so there are no spindle marks on either label and the vinyl is pristine. There are several small feint black spots visible within the vinyl and were part of the pressing process.

(BTW - This 12” single was stored alongside the STUNN 12” version of Primary, which is in a separate listing)
