Limited to 5,000 albums.

The unidentified Columbia remote recording engineer who taped these performances at the It Club, then L.A.'s hippest jazz club, did an excellent job. Throughout these performances though, the recording quality varies as a result of the musician's proximity to their microphones. This is particularly true in the case of Charlie Rouse. In mixing these performances, Mark Wilder has gone to considerable lengths to compensate for those off-mic moments.

Above all, Monk fans who have the compilation "Monk Misterioso" in their closets, not knowing that there are even more recordings of this fascinating concert evening and these are finally made accessible to our vinyl friends will be very excited. Vor allem Monk-Anhänger, die etwa die Compilation „Monk Misterioso“ im Schrank stehen haben, nicht wissend, dass es von diesem faszinierenden Konzertabend noch mehr Aufnahmen gibt und diese nun endlich auch uns Vinylfreunden zugänglich gemacht wurden, werden ganz aus dem Häuschen sein. Besonders, da dieser Livemitschnitt exzellent gelungen ist, dank eines unbekannten Columbia Technikers. Zu hören sind hier Nummern wie „Well, You Neednt“, „Round Midnight“, „Rhythm-a-ning“, „Straight No Chaser“, der berühmte „Bemsha Swing“ und gleich drei Versionen von „Epistrophy“. Monk am Piano zu erleben ist natürlich ein Genuss der besonderen Art, aber hier hat er auch noch so großartige Leute wie Charlie Rouse und Ben Riley neben sich.
