Description
Up for auction is a very nice copy of the Stan Getz, Zoot Sims et al album "The Brothers" released on Prestige Records (PRLP 7022) in 1956. This is an original, deep groove, mono pressing with RVG etched in the dead wax and W. 50th St. NYC address on both the back of the cover and both labels. Cover is in beautiful shape. Lamination is clean and shiny, no bubbles or lifting. A hint of rubbing near bottom edge middle. Back cover is super clean, bone white as it should be. No ring wear, no writing, nothing to distract from its attractiveness. Seams are tight and intact. Corners are sharp, though bottom two are slightly bumped. Framed cover has no printing on the spine, an indication that this is a true first pressing. Grade the cover Near Mint (NM). The vinyl looks really nice also. Nice glossy sheen. No obvious scratches or scuffs, but under certain light, you can see some very faint hairlines, probably caused by taking disc in and out of inner sleeve. Labels bright and clean. Play tested, this is a nice sounding record, though not perfect. Side One opens with some faint surface noise that diminishes as the side progresses. Some intermittent ticks here and there. Side Two sounds cleaner though still has occasional surface noise, but never enough to distract you from the music, even in the quieter passages. It plays nicely--not audiophile nice, but few of these originals do. Visually I would grade this record EX+. Audio-wise I would grade it EX for the most part. All said, this is a very well-preserved copy that has been played and enjoyed, but at the same time very well cared for, not manhandled or mistreated. Better than most copies I've seen.
