Description
Even imbedded within the original bands of the 1977-78 punk moment, there were styles ranging all over the place, some of which would branch out into the post-punk and new wave stuff of the 80's. THE BOYS were like that--playing in the same clubs as groups like Slaughter & the Dogs, they really were there to represent pop, and their big hit song "The First Time" sounded like a punk-speed parody of a 1962 girl-group.
Anyway, here's the very first pressing of their second album, and it's an unusually deluxe package for this genre--great graphics, a full-laminated (front and back) sleeve, a heavy cardboard inner sleeve with more full-color cartoonish collage, and pressed on vinyl that looks black when you take it out of the sleeve, but if you hold it up to the light, it's actually deep translucent purple.
An identical-looking repressing was done the same year, but without the purple vinyl, and (a technical nerd detail) showing "33 rpm" on the label instead of the original edition's "33 1/3rpm".
These guys were really one of the most fun bands of the class of '77, and this is made clear by the money NEMS sunk into their elaborate record packaging--they had lots of fans. These days I think they're VERY overlooked.
