THIS IS THE US ORIGINAL PRESSING on RHINO 'Blue' label. SINGLE COVER + COMPANY INNER. The cover is in VG+ condition, normal wear and without any major deterioration, BUT light discolouration/wear on corners, sticker mark on front (top left), left spine is fully readable, for details see photos (with and without flashlight). The vinyl is in EX condition, and plays wonderfully and without lessening in sound quality.

THE BOX TOPS
During their brief lifespan, the Box Tops earned a reputation as one of the best blue-eyed soul groups of the '60s, even if their recorded legacy wasn't as large or consistent as, say, the Righteous Brothers or the Rascals. Today they're remembered not only for their smashes "The Letter" and "Cry Like a Baby," but as the launching pad for singer Alex Chilton, who went on to become one of rock's most revered cult figures thanks to his groundbreaking power pop unit Big Star. In his teenage years, Chilton was an amazingly gritty Memphis soul belter akin to an American version of the Spencer Davis Group's Stevie Winwood. The Box Tops' music also encompassed touches of pop and psychedelia, although the group's own lack of control over it eventually led to their split-up.

A classic example of Rhino Records' early strength in excellent, straightforward single-artist reissues, the Box Tops' Greatest Hits is genuinely as much Box Tops as all but the most ardent (pun intended) fan will require. All of the Memphis group's singles are included, from the hits "The Letter" and "Cry Like a Baby" to lesser-selling but equally beloved blue-eyed soul gems like "Soul Deep" and "Neon Rainbow." The compilers also include a nice cross-section of B-sides and album tracks, like the gospel-tinged shouter "I Met Her in Church" and a weird but wonderful psych-soul nugget with a New Orleans-style second-line rhythm (complete with tuba) called "Sweet Cream Ladies Forward March." Other rarities include "The Happy Song," one of the few Box Tops tracks penned by lead singer Alex Chilton, and "Mi Sento Felice," which is "Cry Like a Baby" in extraordinarily poor phonetic Italian...(AllMusic)
