Description
This is a genuine BPI British music industry Platinum Award for UK sales of the album “A Tonic for the Troops”. It was issued in 1980 to legendary producer, Robert “Mutt” Lange, who produced the band’s first 3 albums.
This framed & glazed award is in a silver aluminium frame measuring 41x51cms. Overall the award is in very good condition. There are a few very minor blemishes on the record & scratches on the frame, along with the usual fading on the flag, but nothing that detracts from what is a great looking award.
This award is from an era when it was typical that less than a dozen BPI awards were issued, usually to the artist(s), producer(s), record label, management, and sometimes a few others closely involved with a record’s success. This is an official music industry award, and should not be confused with any kind of replica or ‘limited edition’ that is sold direct to the public. So it’s a very rare chance to acquire a super piece of Boomtown Rats memorabilia.
I’m having a bit of a clear-out of awards that I’ve had stored away for years (see my About page). So please check my ‘other items’ for more rare awards from the music industry including BPI & RIAA awards. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
