The Blue Things were dressed in their "BritishBeat Best" when they released their only Lp on RCA. The Blue Things are remembered as one of the best bands to come out of the Midwest in the 60's, although they were unheard of outside of the Midwest in their brief lifespan...though great enough that they hooked up with a major label...Great melodies, hooks galore, strong songs, it's all here. Like others, first impressions lumped them as somewhat like the Byrds, Beau Brummels or Rubber Soul era Beatles. Strong garage & folk rock sound mix, not thin but instead with a fat base from which to build their songs. Cliche as it is, it really is somewhat amazing that this band faded into obscurity with material this strong. Whereas the latter-day Brummels drifted toward rural music, the Blue Things embraced psychedelia, as seen in the post-LP efforts "The Orange Rooftop of Your Mind", the "Doctor Robert"- inspired "One Hour Cleaners", and "You Can Live in Our Tree", which sounds like Dylan after an acid trip.
