Description
THE BLACK CROWES Shake Your Money Maker 1990 ORIGINAL US VINYL LP ALBUM First Press DEF 24278 VG+/VG+. The debut album from the Robinson Brothers, originally known as “Mr. Crowe’s Garden” when the boys were in high school back in the 80’s, in Marietta, Georgia. Also known as the Crowe Mafia lol. This album is also known as “The Black Crowes Present: $hake Your Money Maker,” if you kind-of follow the words from the front of the jacket cover, to the back. “Shake Your Money Maker” is an old Elmore James Blues song. The song “Hard To Handle” was originally written by Otis Redding and two other dudes from the 60’s. This is the ONLY Crowes album with Guitarist Jeff Cease.
This record here is the original Def American Recordings first press. It was Producer George Drakoulias who saw the guys in 1988 as “Mr. Crowe’s Garden” and signed them to Def American that year. That’s when they changed their name to The Black Crowes (with the “e” haha!) Def American later became American Recordings, and was under the “big umbrella” of Warner Brothers. Engineered by the Awesome Mr. Brendan “Bud” O’Brien—many people don’t know he worked with the Crowes. They know he worked with Stone Temple Pilots, Rage Against the Machine, Soundgarden, the Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam et al. Well his genius is evident on this Black Crowes album too!
I like to conservatively grade my records, so although this could be VG++ (or Excellent,) I’m grading the record and sleeve and jacket all VG+. There is a very light scratch on side 1 and a very light “scuffing” or sleeve-scuff on side 2. These don’t even show in the pictures—nothing to worry about just being accurate. The vinyl is nice-and-glossy and the jacket and sleeve very nice. I love the sleeve Art! There is the small “saw-cut,” another reason I’m going-with VG+. You’ll notice in the pictures that this album jacket has 2 spines labeled / lettered. On the left as usual, but also along the top edge. Pretty cool right? Note that in my listings of records you’ll sometimes see very light dust on the vinyl. My iPhone camera is very good so in my photos sometimes a little dust shows up highly detailed in the pictures. I don’t do anything with this dust because I don’t currently have a good anti-static brush. Nothing to worry about.
This album of course is the BIG ONE: Twice As Hard, Jealous Again, Hard To Handle, and She Talks To Angels are all on here. Totally rocking album. She Talks To Angels was written by Chris Robinson about a girl he knew, or “sorta kinda knew,” who was a Heroin addict in Atlanta. I’m going to be also listing Amorica by the Crowes — with the “Girly Cover” LOL ;-) and STILL-SEALED! So check that out! USA BUYERS ONLY, lower-48 Continental States only, please. THANK YOU for looking at my records.
