This auction is for a vinyl 45rpm record called ‘No Good Without You Baby / How Can It Be’ by The Birds.

Notes – The Thunderbirds were formed at art college by the five members who all came from West Drayton, Middlesex. The original line-up was Alistair McKenzie on vocals, Ronnie Wood on guitar, Tony Monroe on guitar, Kim Gardner on bass, and Pete McDaniels on drums. They later shortened their name to simply The Birds and their style of Motown influenced music was very popular on the pub and club circuit. They signed to Decca Records and made three singles in 1964-65. They had two claims to fame during their brief career. Firstly, they starred in a horror film called 'The Deadly Bees'. They also had a legal battle with The Byrds over the use of their name. The band released four singles altogether including the Motown cover 'Leaving Here'. This was later covered by Motorhead on Stiff Records, and whose Lemmy had been a roadie for The Birds.
The group split in 1966, and Kim Gardner joined The Creation. A later single was released called 'Say Those Magic Words' and was credited to The Birds' Birds.
Kim Gardner later formed Ashton Gardner & Dyke. Ronnie Wood carried on playing guitar with a few little known groups - including the Jeff Beck Group (on bass), The Faces, and The Rolling Stones (mot a bad CV)! Kim Gardner later owned a bar and restaurant in Hollywood called 'The Cat & The Fiddle'.
This 45 has since become a sought after slice of psych vinyl. Highly unlikely to find an original these days.

CONDITION –
The vinyl is in Mint (unplayed) condition.
The Decca sleeve is in Mint condition.
(Record Collector gradings).
The all important labels are in superb condition. There is no writing or other blemishes, the text is striking and clearly legible with NO fading, they are as pristine as the day they left the factory. The spindle is clean with very little evidence of wear and show very little signs of visible playing.
This copy however has never been played and looked after.
The vinyl is in great condition and free from any marks or blemishes.
The most outstanding aspect of this copy is the clean nature of how the record plays with no surface noise or static pops between tracks. This 45 single has clearly been loved and treasured by a keen collector. The quality of the sound makes the playing of the disc a pleasure with no allowances having to be made for its 46 year vintage sound, which is astounding in itself.
This version of this awesome single was issued as part of an Acme Box Set.
This single is becoming increasingly rare, especially in this condition.
