THE BEATLES-RUBBER SOUL TYPE SINGLE LP - MONO LABEL/PRESSING INFO
PARLOPHONE YELLOW & BLACK WITHDRAWN 1ST PRESS WITH MATRIX NUMBERS: XEX 579-1 & XEX 580-1 AKA "LOUD CUT". ALSO IT HAS 2 DIFFERENT TYPE FACES ON THE LABELS. SIDE 1 HAS THE COMPACT AND THICKER SANS SERIF SET, WHILE SIDE 2 HAS THE THINNER AND MORE SPREAD OUT ROMAN FONT, AND IF THAT WASNT ENOUGH THERE IS ALSO THE SEEMINGLY UBEQUITIOUS "EXTRA DOT" INBETWEEN THE IN AND U.K. ON SIDE 1.
CATALOGUE NUMBER PMC 1267 YEAR OF RELEASE 1965 COUNTRY OF RELEASE U.K. SLEEVE TYPE SINGLE - GARROD & LOFTHOUSE Patents pending LAMINATED FLIPBACK INSERTS/EXTRAS ORIGINAL LINED EMITEX INNER GRADING/CONDITION DISC(s) EXCELLENT (NICE CLEAN RECORD black and shiny and with VERY LIGHT playwear and just a handful of LIGHT to VERY LIGHT handling marks and it plays really well with a great reproduction with absolutely no clicking etc, and just a hint of background in places, and for anyone who is familiar with the album through later incarnations these "loud cut" copies really are worth listening to for the differences in their perceived output, I actually prefer these to the "polished" versions as they come across with a rawness that you would have liked to hear anyway. LABELSEXCELLENT ( CLEAN LABELS with NO writing rips tears stickers or removal marks there are some light spindlemarks and a bit of spindlewear that appears to be more allied to having been played on an infernal 60's machine with an oversized spindle and the deadly autochanger as opposed to being heavily played)
SLEEVEFront board.Inner gatefold EX CLEAN with NO writing rips tears user stickers or removal marks .The laminate is complete bright and shiny with light rubbing wear and pressure marking,there is quite a few laminate creases, some thumbnail types around the opening and more around the edges. Rear board EX+ REAR board white board is clean and unmarked with no user interfacing and just a bit of light ageing Flipbacks EX Flpibacks are clean and complete with some laminate cracking in places Spine EX+ Spine is complete and uncrushed with clear writing and just light storage wear Top & bottom edge EX Top edge has very light wear only, bottom edge is complete with a small light patch of storage wear in the middle. Opening EX Opening has light usage with a bit of feathering on the rear board Corners EX+ ALL 4 corners have light wear with just a bit of rounding. INNER /EXTRAS
EMITEX INNER: EXCELLENT (CLEAN and complete with no writing rips tears edge splits etc, has some ageing to the corners and a bit ragged around the opening where it was sticking out of the sleeve when I found it)
DETAILSWhile the Beatles still largely stuck to love songs on Rubber Soul, the lyrics represented a quantum leap in terms of thoughtfulness, maturity, and complex ambiguities. Musically, too, it was a substantial leap forward, with intricate folk-rock arrangements that reflected the increasing influence of Dylan and the Byrds.
The group and George Martin were also beginning to expand the conventional instrumental parameters of the rock group, using a sitar on "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)," Greek-like guitar lines on "Michelle" and "Girl," fuzz bass on "Think for Yourself," and a piano made to sound like a harpsichord on the instrumental break of "In My Life." While John and Paul were beginning to carve separate songwriting identities at this point, the album is full of great tunes, from "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" and "Michelle" to "Girl," "I'm Looking Through You," "You Won't See Me," "Drive My Car," and "Nowhere Man" (the last of which was the first Beatle song to move beyond romantic themes entirely).
George Harrison was also developing into a fine songwriter with his two contributions, "Think for Yourself" and the Byrds-ish "If I Needed Someone."
