Description
This is the original 1968 Australian pressing of this EP. "Penny Lane" and "Strawberry Fields Forever" had been released as a single in 1967, and also included on the US released "Magical Mystery Tour" album that same year. "Eleanor Rigby" and "Yellow Submarine" were released as a single, and on the "Revolver" album in 1966. The cover photo was taken in 1964 by Robert Whitaker, and was whimsical attempt to symbolize spring, (note John Lennon holding a sprig), It was on odd choice for a cover photo in 1968 as the Beatles' appearance had changed significantly since it was taken. The vinyl on both sides is clean and shiny with only a couple of minor scuffs, and both sides play LOUD and clear with only some low level surface noise on the run in tracks and between the tracks,for the most part not heard while the music is playing.(VG)(Some surface noise can be heard during the start of "Strawberry Fields Forever", for about 10 seconds during the Mellotron intro, masked when the full band kicks in. For this reason I have graded sided 2 as VG- Both labels are clean, no stickers, however there is a letter "J" about 1 cm high written with ballpoint above the word "Parlophone" on both sides.(see photos 5 & 6) . The cover is clean front and back, no stickers or writing, however there is some ring wear front and back and some light creases near the corners and along the spine. There is also a faint mark (3.5 cm x 5 mm) just under the track listing for "Yellow Submarine" which looks as though a sticky label has been removed, but overall it is still in good condition, no tears or splits, and the spine is still intact. (There was a reissue of this EP in 1979, but this original 1968 has the flip back flaps on the back cover, the reissue had the flaps glued under the back cover.) I have graded the cover as G++.(I have placed this EP in a clear plastic outer cover to help preserve the cover.)
