This copy of The Beatles "Yesterday and Today" vinyl LP album was purchased shortly after its debut in 1966.  It has been in storage since the middle 1970's.  The record is in Very Good+ condition.  The cover is in Very Good condition.  My rating is based on the following information and scale, which uses a combination of the Goldmine Grading Scale and a 1-10 scale.
LP/Vinyl Grade: 7 (VG+) -- There is a bit of light scuffing and scratching on the record, which should not affect the quality of its play. The inner paper ring has the Capitol Records rainbow image.  The paper is in excellent condition, with very little spindle wear.  A previous owner's initials are on the top of the paper ring on Side 1.
Cover Grade: 6 (VG) -- There is some ring wear, scuffing, discoloration, and small tears on the cover.  The edges and corners are worn with some tearing.  A previous owner's initials are in the lower right of the back cover.  The two halves of the cover still are together without additional adhesive.  The inner sleeve is present and in very good condition (with a previous owner's initials in the upper right corner).  Importantly, the inner sleeve shows a collection of "Capitol '66" album covers, which provides strong indication that this record was cut in 1966 or early 1967.
10: MINT (M), Pristine, Looks as if it just came off the manufacturing line, also listed as New, Mint Sealed/Unopened

9: NEAR MINT (NM), Looks as if it just came from a store and was opened for the first time, maybe played a few times if ever, no evidence of play or wear whatsoever

8: EXCELLENT (EX), LP may have a faint surface mark or two barring it from being truly Near Mint, but sound quality should not be affected at all, cover sleeve is just short of Near Mint, often used for cover sleeves in Shrink, or with no ringwear or staining or easily visible flaws whatsoever, seams and spine fully intact.

7: VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+), Shows slight signs of wear, light scuffs or scratches may be present but they do not affect playback other than faint surface noise heard sporadically in between tracks, or the occasional soft click from a surface mark here or there, cover sleeve is considered still “frameable” yet when observed closely will show to have a flaw or small flaws, very minor ring wear if any, seams and spine intact but not pristine.

6: VERY GOOD/VERY GOOD PLUS (VG/VG+), more obvious signs of wear and handling, LP has surface noise that is noticeable in some spots but perhaps is quiet and clean in other spots, clicks and pops will be heard, but will not significantly disrupt the music, cover sleeves have more obvious ring wear or marks/staining, seams may have cracking, minor seam splitting or some missing spine text but are still fairly well intact. Writing may be present on label.

5: VERY GOOD (VG), significant and obvious wear and handling including surface noise throughout, audible scratches which cause clicks and pops and crackle but no skips or repeated grooves, cover sleeve may have significant ring wear and/or staining, seam splits may be evident, label or sleeve may have writing, names, stickers etc.

The runout code on Side 1 is "ST1-2553-B8".  The runout code on Side 2 is "ST2-2553-A7".

I pack vinyl albums in several layers of cardboard, so that the album is most likely to survive mailing.

 This is an excellent opportunity to get a very nice copy of this vintage vinyl album.

I have attached the entire conversation that I have had with midmichbidder, who has made an interesting observation about the cover of this album.  I appreciate the time that he has put into this conversation.  The most recent email is at the top of the posts.

I had not looked at item 262172421484. I now have and I am impressed by the fact that the top, left, and bottom sides (within about an inch of the edge) look the same as the cover that I have. This increases the possibility in my mind that my album may well be a second state cover (as long as item 2662172421464 is second state). The only way to know for certain would be to cancel this auction until I can have a professional appraise the cover. I don't think that this is a fair thing to do, so I'll let the auction run its course, I provide runout numbers to help buyers who understand these numbers determine when and where the record was cut. In the case of this album, it may also indicate what cover was used with the record. That is, if runouts in a certain range had the second state cover, and this record in in that range, it is likely to be a second state cover. I just don't know for sure. I've attached 4 closer images of the "triangle" area in different angles and lighting conditions, so that you and others can make a better determination fon the pesence or absence of the triangle.

I tend to do most of my intense research into pinback buttons that is my main focus of collecting and as many of the better ones have been reproduced but this LP caught my eye, It is hard to tell from the photo and may be wishful thinking but I seem to see a trace of the 'BLACK TRIANGLE" on yours I've been looking at what is being sold as a 2nd state cover (item 262172421484) that has a close up of that area and on that 1 it runs from just below the elbow down to about the top latch of the trunk then looking back at yours as I move up and down I seem to see a trace of it? but like you say there's only one sure way to tell and that might ruin it or cost a fair amount to find out anyhow good luck.

You may be right, but I don't want to tell potential buyers that this album has the Butcher Baby cover under the top cover. I've gone back to the "thebutchercover" web site to reread information about this cover. The site refers to variations on the three main covers (Butcher Baby, Second Generation, Trunk cover). This "appears" to me to be one of those "wild" variations. I do not see the 'BLACK TRIANGLE" that is supposed to be on a Second Generation cover. That tell is missing. My best guess is that this cover was in production at the time of the change. Rather than being thrown out, as many covers were, the back cover was attached to the cardboard and folded over about one inch of the front cover. Then the Trunk cover was attached. Of course, I could find out by attempting to remove the top cover, but I don't want to ruin the cover by doing so.

The more you describe it the more I'm (about) sure it is the "BUTCHER BABY" LP once the protest about the cover started they put the sticker cover on the LPs they had made then changed to a printed cover, cool.

You bring up an interesting point. I've wondered why the front cover is 3/8" short on the top edge, 1/4" on the left edge, and 3/16" on the bottom edge. The front cover seems to be affixed after the back side was sealed on and folded (sort of Christmas-wrap style) over onto the front side. If you zoom over the sides of the cover, you will see that about 1/2" of the edge of the back cover is under the front cover. I don't think I've ever seen another album cover like this. I don't know how many covers of "Yesterday and Today" look like this. I've tried a couple of ways to see if there is another cover under this one. One is by light -- shown onto the cover, sideways onto the cover, and from the inside. The other is by magnifying glass looking at the open edge. I can't see any evidence of another cover under the one that is shown. I wonder like you if the cover was intended to be the Butcher Baby cover, but changed in processing and the Trunk cover affixed. I don't know, but I wonder.
