Description
Beatles "Yellow Submarine" Sealed LP – Apple Label – Likely 1969 First Pressing- FACTORY SEALED - Has a Stress Seam Split of 1/2" on top middle of cover - other wise NEAR MINT- tight shrink - sharp corners
For obvious reasons, there is no way to determine with complete certainty which Apple label variation is inside a factory-sealed copy. However, several jacket characteristics strongly suggest this is an early Apple pressing, most likely a 1969 first pressing.
Details:
- Back cover has a slick seam on three sides. Later issues did not have this seam construction.
- The bottom of the back cover lists the pressing plants active at the time, including the Scranton, Pennsylvania plant, but does not include the Winchester, Virginia plant.
- This is significant because the Winchester plant did not begin pressing Beatles albums until mid-to-late 1969, while Yellow Submarine was originally released in January 1969.
- Based on these manufacturing details, we can determine that this is not a Winchester pressing and that it was likely pressed sometime between January 1969 and the fall of 1969.
- The bottom of the back cover does not feature the Capitol logo style introduced in 1976, further confirming that this is an early Apple label pressing.
Conclusion:
Based on the jacket construction, plant information, and cover characteristics, my best estimate is that this sealed copy is a genuine early Apple label pressing and very likely a 1969 first pressing.
Please review all photos and judge for yourself, as the record remains factory sealed and the exact label variation cannot be verified without opening the album.
