YELLOW SUBMARINE
MONO
By 1969 when this album was released, mono records had all but disappeared, replaced almost completely by stereo.
As such, the mono copy of Yellow Submarine was hardly bought.
This isn't the best copy of this incredibly rare album that you will ever see, but it is far from being the worst either.
The first pressings of this album are mainly identified by the 'Sold in the UK...' label text, the dark green Apple labels, and the two Red Lines on the rear of the album sleeve.
The Matrix numbers on the vinyl run-out are XEX 715-1 / 716-1.
Visually the vinyl shows many scuffs, and there is a scratch on Side One track 4: 'Hey Bulldog'.
Audibly, the record plays very well, apart from the afore mentioned track: there is a small jump on 'Hey Bulldog'.
The front cover is in very good condition, with nothing more serious than a small 1.5cm area of laminate peel on the bottom right corner (visible in the photo).
The rear of the cover has some faded red staining in the area of the sleeve notes, and is a little dirty towards the opening. The original price of 37 shillings & 6d is written in pencil in the top right corner. Personally I like this as it adds authenticity, but it would be easily removable I imagine.
The inner sleeve is the original black type, die-cut on one side. There is a small tear by the cut-out.
I hope I have described this accurately. As previously stated, it's not an immaculate copy, but with so few for sale these days - it's not so bad either.
Check out how many Black & Gold copies of Please Please Me there are on ebay at the moment, and compare the number to Mono copies of Yellow Submarine. This is a very rare album.
