ATTENTION, BEATLES COLLECTORS...THIS IS IT!!!
A second-state, unpeeled, stereo copy of Yesterday...and Today by The Beatles! It's the infamous "Butcher Cover"--the Holy Grail of Beatles collecting!
The Beatles' U.S. label, Capitol Records, had a habit of "chopping" up their Stateside releases, altering the order in which the songs appeared and even releasing albums in America which had no counterparts anywhere else. When the time came to release this LP, John, Paul, George and Ringo decided to have some fun. They posed in butcher smocks with dismembered baby dolls and cuts of raw meat.
These days a recording artist can say or do nearly anything they please, but in 1966 things were very different. Capitol released the album with the original cover and immediately was hit with a firestorm of complaints. Faced with overwhelmingly negative feedback, Yesterday...and Today was recalled by Capitol and a more "suitable" cover was pasted onto the recalled copies.
This is your chance to own one of the surviving "pasteover" copies.
The cover of the copy you're bidding on is in vg condition, having no writing or stickers. There is a tear in the front upper right-hand corner, another in the front upper left-hand corner, and a 2" seam split along the lower right bottom spine from the mouth of the jacket running left. Some discoloration is evident along the front left side of the album, and there is slight ring wear. Please see pictures for further reference. All in all, a nice copy of this cover that would be great for your collection!
Also included is a STEREO copy of the album itself which grades a conservative vg; and the original "Capitol '66" innersleeve, which also grades vg. This copy was manufactured in Capitol's Los Angeles plant number 5.
These "second state" copies of Yesterday...and Today are becoming harder to find as people try peeling away the pasteover--often ruining the cover altogether! This one has a reasonable minimum and low reserve, and will go quickly! Bid with confidence and make this piece of rock and roll history yours!
