THE BEATLES: WITH THE BEATLES DECCA CONTRACT PRESS. EX AUDIO. EMITEX INNER..

PLAY TESTED. JANUARY 11TH. EXCELLENT AUDIO.

This Decca contract press, is from early 1964. Second pressing label variation, with G&L front laminated cover, ‘Gotta’ mis-spell to rear, with large mono to front cover.

Black label with yellow logo and silver print. ‘Parlophone Co’ perimeter print and ‘Recording first published 1963’. Dominion, Belinda publishing credit for Money (Side 2). Tracing-paper lined Emitex die-cut inner sleeve.

Characteristics of Decca pressings include:

1) No tax code around the centre hole.

2) A light ridge 5mm from centre hole, and 41mm in from the edge of the label.

3) Prominent groove, 31mm from the centre hole and 15mm from label edge.

4) No tax code at 12 ‘O’ Clock.

5) Mother plate at 9 ‘O’ Click, with no tax code above it.

6) No letters at 3 ‘O’ Clock.

7) Matrix numbers at 6 ‘O’ Clock.

The Decca pressing also comes in a tracing-paper-lined Emitex inner, as opposed to a Poly-lined inner, which the EMI pressings were housed in.

AUDIO: EXCELLENT. PLAY TESTED. JANUARY 11TH.

ABSOLUTELY NO SKIPS, JUMPS OR STICKING.

Some surface noise/crackle on side 1 & 2 intros, and very occasional surface noise, though very light, but very largely quiet throughout, with an overall audio of excellent. Punchy and clear where it should be, and beautifully quiet between tracks.

SLEEVE (G&L). VG+

‘You Really Gotta Hold On Me’ mis-spelling.

Sleeve is VG+. Graffiti free, no rips or tares, with just minimal edge ware. Spine is relatively strong, with minor scuffing through ‘Th’ of ‘The Beatles.

A little creasing and light ring ware to front, and some ring ware to rear.

EMITEX INNER (Tracing paper lined) Good.

The inner has some spotting/yellowing, along with a seam split, but is free of graffiti/rips or tares.

In conclusion, this is a lovely, original Decca mono press of the 2nd Beatles album, with excellent audio, which I’d give an overall grading as VG++. I do though tend to be quite conservative in my gradings/descriptions, as being a collector myself, I appreciate that accurate and honest grading is paramount. Thus, I retain a 100% positive feedback rating, so rest assured, you can bid with confidence.
