This is a NM example of one of the rarest Beatles LP's ever produced by E.M.I. (Australia), With The Beatles with Columbia labels instead of Parlophone labels.
The result of simplest human error, a box of Columbia labels was mistakenly grabbed off the shelf instead of a box of Parlophone ones (an easy mistake to make given that each was identical in design save for the logo).
Only around 300 copies of the Columbia-labelled With The Beatles were produced in 1979. How many copies survived the vinyl-cull which swept Australia during the 1980's CD revolution will never be known; nor can the condition of surviving copies be estimated. The only fact that can be established, here and now, is the LP offered in this auction is a surviving NM example of the 1979 Columbia misprint.
CONDITION - VINYL
Vinyl grades at NM (near-mint). If this record has actually been played then it was only once because the surface is unblemished and is visually in an as-new condition. The LP is as flat as a pancake that's been overrun by a steam-roller.
CONDITION - LABELS
Labels grade at EX(cellent). There is some manufacture-related label-application defect, evident in the central circular depression of each label, manifesting as wear to the surface of the paper label. This 'wear' is restricted to areas where vinyl-manufacure defects exist underneath the label itself. Other tiny visible blemishes on both labels are inherent to the original print process and not the consequence of owner-handling.
CONDITION - SLEEVE
The sleeve grades only at G(ood) on account of its overall condition (the correct Australian technical terminology being: sh!t-house). But let's face facts, the focus of this auction is the NM vinyl record with the Columbia labels and not the bog-standard sleeve that can be easily swapped with one befitting the LP it houses.
