The Beatles : With The Beatles  1N / 1N 1st Mono Press Jobete / Gotta Credit 1963

This first mono pressing plays with superb audio and no interference!  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and I cannot emphasise enough how well it plays.  The clarity and depth of the recording is up there with the best I have ever heard and this collectable album is now 60 years old!  I have only graded the final track on S1 as Near Mint, all the others are Mint, and that is only because it plays with a little inner groove distortion, a minimal amount I have to say.  The final track on S2 'Money' is absolutely stunning!  The vinyl is also visually in great condition.  A genuine classic and rarely found in this condition.

The cover has also been very well preserved and has only minimal wear and the Emitex inner is very clean with no side splits or tears.

This genuine first press of course has the incorrect Jobete credit for 'Money' on S2 and 'You Really Got A...' is incorrectly spelled as 'You Really Gotta...' on both the label and the cover.  It has the 1N / 1N matrix also.  This classic album was released in Nov '63 so is now over 60 years old!

The vinyl is in superb condition and still has a very impressive glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  It has been played as there is some spindle wear but not an excessive amount.  It has clearly been very carefully handled over the years which is why its visual 'look' is so good.  There are only a small number of faint hairlines with only a couple that are a little more obvious but they are still faint.  The run out grooves are very clean and the yellow / black Parlophone labels are very clean with just the spindle wear as stated.  The KT tax code can easily be seen on S1.

Play grading  

The run in on S1 is so clean without any background so you are already expecting 'It Won't Be Long' to play well and it does not disappoint!  The opening chorus is perfect and then the first verse is equal to that.  It continues in the same way with no ticks, clicks, pops or static and the clarity is just stunning.  A powerful track and yet there is no distortion on the top end - crystal clear audio.  Right to the end it plays with genuine precision and Mint is very much deserved.

'All I've Got To Do' plays to the same exact standard with no interference and once again the clarity and depth of sound cannot be faulted.  Even the fade out plays perfectly.  Mint

'All My Loving' and 'Don't Bother Me' again play with exceptional clarity - there are no negatives.  To think this vinyl is now 60 years old!  The vocals and accompanying music is so clean and precise on both the tracks and Mint is again the only grade I can give.

The intro on 'Little Child' is 'as new' and this standard is maintained throughout. This is a powerful track and there is no distortion - this is a mono record being played through a stereo set up so even more impressive in a way.  Mint

The acoustic intro on 'Till There Was You' does not even have a single dust tick let alone anything else.  It continues to play with STUNNING clarity and a genuine sense of depth also.  The mid acoustic section is perfect and the final vocal is so clean and precise with literally nothing getting in the way of the audio.  Another Mint track.  Wow!

'Please Mister Postman' ends the side with very clear audio and with less inner groove distortion than what you normally find.  There is no other background and as I often say it doesn't deserve to be downgraded in a way because final tracks often do not play with the same level of clarity but I will say Near Mint just to be on the safe side.

S2 begins with a superb version of 'Roll Over Beethoven' that plays with great power and depth throughout.  Stunning clarity also.  A Mint start to the side.

'Hold Me Tight' and 'You Really Gotta Hold On Me' both plays with sublime precision and... no interference.  Mint

Another powerful track in 'I Wanna Be Your Man' and another track that plays with phenomenal sonic quality.  Mint all the way.

The next two tracks 'Devil In her Heart' and 'Not A Second Time' play with outstanding quality with no sign of any interference.  Once again you cannot help but be impressed by the clarity, depth and warmth of the audio.  Honestly I cannot overstate just how well this side is playing.  Mint

What follows has to be the cleanest most impressive mono version of 'Money' that I have ever heard.  This is a track that often has to be turned down due to intrusive distortion but the audio here is unbelievably clean.  There is obviously no interference but remarkably there is barely any distortion, nothing obvious anyway.  The vocals for once are so clean and there are no negatives - a STUNNING Mint- finish to this incredible album.

In summary this first mono pressing plays to a standard that is rarely found today.  In essence it plays perfectly with no interference and I am confident in saying that precisely because I listen to every track in full.  If there is an obvious static tick even then I will not grade a track as Mint but I am delighted to say the entire album has no ticks, clicks, pops or static.  A FINAL UPGRADE album in so many ways.  I do now have a higher grade stylus / cartridge so that may have something to do with it but I have to say I have never heard clarity, depth and power like this on a genuine Jobete first press.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The E.J. Day laminated cover is in excellent condition and has kept its original shape and structure perfectly.  It is 100% flat with no bending or creasing.  The edges have no rubbing and the thin pinched spine is so clean with only very minimal wear on the corners.  The right hand corners have only a little more wear but still not very much for a 60 year old piece of card!  The opening edge looks hardly touched - it has only 3/4 minor crimps.  The front cover is in lovely condition with no obvious wear.  On close inspection I could see a couple of small faint scuffs near the bottom edge and there is also some fading of the black background mainly by the spine but this can only be seen when you hold the cover at a certain angle.  The back cover is very clean when you consider it isn't laminated.  It has only minimal faint marking / spotting and the flipbacks are still 100% attached to the cover.  They have a ringwear 'crease' top and bottom but this is only minor and the edges have very little of the staining that you so often see.  Slight wear on a couple of corners but overall this is a superb example of this cover.

The poly-lined Emitex inner is in excellent shape with only a couple of small faint marks and a little creasing.  There are no side splits or tears.

Play tested on my Rega P2 with AT-VM95EN Cart / Denon PMA-520AE Amp / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
