This White Album is from the collection of Norman 'Hurricane' Smith. Norman Smith began working at Abbey Road Studio’s in 1959 as an apprentice for EMI. George Martin used him for The Beatles Recording Sessions, including their very first ever EMI Recording stint, and he continued as their Recording Engineer right through to the Rubber Soul sessions in December 1965.
Arguably one of most influential and iconic Albums of the 20th Century, this is an original 1968 UK Apple **FIRST ISSUE MONO** Factory Sample two Vinyl LP Set for The Beatles White Album, entitled ‘The BEATLES’.
This Superb Set is 100% complete, with two original UK first issue Factory Sample monovinyl LPs. Four original Full Colour glossy photographs – one of each Beatle, an original Large Format, Double Sided, Lyric poster, printed by Garrod and Lofthouse, Two original matt black inner bags. The set is housed within its original, First Issue, Fully Laminated Top Opening Numbered 0010247 Gatefold Sleeve.
LP Description:
The two First Issue mono Vinyl LPs are on the traditional dark green Apple Record labels, with ‘Sold in UK Subject to resale. ‘without an E.M.I. Recording Label reference’ and with ‘Mfd. In UK’ label text to all four sides of the record labels, with the official Factory Sample Stickers on sides 2 & 3. Please note the the Factory Sample sticker on side 2 is a little creased, and the black ring around the centre of side 4 label is an embossed manufacturing mark.
All four record labels are in superb undamaged Excellent Plus condition, clean record labels free from any handwriting, with just light centre spindle lines to each label.
Disc 1, Side 1 matrix XEX 709-1 & Side 2: XEX 710-1.
Disc 1, Side 1 stampers: 5 OM & Side 2 stampers are: 7 OL.
Disc 2, Side 3 matrix: XEX 711-3 & Side 4: XEX 712-1.
Disc 2, Side 3 stampers: 2 RL & Side 4 stampers: 7 GDH.
All four sides of the vinyl discs are in very nice Excellent to Excellent Plus condition, the vinyl surfaces are very clean and free from scratches, all that is visible are a few non sounding surface hairlines.
And are housed in it’s ORIGINAL, FULLY LAMINATED Garrod and Lofthouse GATEFOLD Sleeve. This FIRST ISSUE Sleeve is TOP OPENING and NUMBERED 0010247, printed to the lower portion of the front of the sleeve. ‘The BEATLES’ is embossed a little way up above the number. The sleeve opens out to reveal black and white portraits of each of The Beatles together with the track listing, the gatefold sleeve is in Very Good Plus condition, the sleeve shows some age toning, and corner bumps, and record indentation to the front and reverse.
There are rub marks visible on the front edges of the sleeve, and a tiny area of paper loss at the bottom of the spine, (see scans).
Both original black inner bags are in Very Good condition, showing light creases and small tears, but nothing major.
The four original Full Colour glossy photographs – one of each Beatle in Excellent condition, with no tearing or pin holes.
And also includes an original Large Format, Double Sided, Lyric poster printed by Garrod and Lofthouse, also in Excellent condition, no pin holes or damage.
Play Quality:
Having played both LPs, all four sides play well throughout, with some mild background crackle on the quieter tracks, there are NO skips a very nice clear mono sound quality.
A very respectable example of the classic White album with a fairly lowish number, and continues to be a firm favourite, and this White was previously owned by someone who was very involved with The Beatles Recording Sessions.
