The tremendous success of The Beatles in 1964 led to numerous repackagings of their material by the independent labels that had taken a chance on them early on when their nominal American label passed on its option in 1963. While it still controlled American rights to The Beatles' first album, Please Please Me, which it had issued in abridged form as Introducing the Beatles in 1963, Vee Jay hit upon another way of selling the same material. Here, they released a two-LP set -- the first LP is a slightly different abridgement of the Please Please Me album ("Ask Me Why" and "Please Please Me" have been restored, and "Love Me Do" and "P.S. I Love You" deleted), and the second LP is a reissue of the 1963 compilation The 4 Seasons' Golden Hits. The Seasons also were now scoring hits on another label.

·                               THE RECORDS

 (IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG+(+). A few light abrasions  ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly  insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new. [NOTE: THE FOUR SEASONS DISC IS IN A SLIGHTLY BETTER CONDITION THAN  THE BEATLES' DISC;  PROBABLY ABOUT VG++]

(b)          The records are  pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           The album comes with its original poster in gorgeous condition

(d)          The record comes in the original stock inner sleeve. (NOTE: ONLY ONE INNER SLEEVE IS PRESENT)

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·                               THE COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        The gatefold cover has partially split seams on 3 out of 4 "legs" of the cover (about 1, 2 and 6 inches / 1 inch = 2.5 centimeters).  This longest of  the three (6") split seams was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-        Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-        The cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-        Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging. Yellowing is also noted on the INSIDE gatefold

-        Cover has two corners slightly dinged (nothing significant)

-        Cover has a small, rectangular, sticker residue (small greenish discoloration from the removed price sticker)   (BARELY VISIBLE)

-        Visible shelf wear noted on the top and bottom seams.
