THE BEATLES ?- 'THE BEATLES' (WHITE ALBUM) - DOUBLE VINYL MONO LP - 1ST PRESSING NO 0012851 - 1968 - APPLE
Description
- Released in 1968 this is a mono first pressing of The Beatles eponymous 9th studio album, commonly known as 'The White Album. A double album with a total of 30 tracks
- This was the last Beatles album to be mixed separately for mono and stereo
- A lot of the songs for the album were written during a Transcendental Meditation course with Maharishi Yogi in India, between February and April 1968 and recorded mainly at EMI Studios, London (Abbey Road), with a few sessions at Trident Studios between May and October, 1968. The album was released in late November of the same year
- Produced by George Martin, the musicians are the four band members with a large number of guests and session musicians. Notably Yoko Ono sharing lead vocals with John Lennon on 'The Continuing Story Of Bungalow Bill' and Eric Clapton palying lead guitar on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'
- All songs are credited to Lennon and McCartney apart from those noted in the track listings below
- The gatefold album cover is plain white with 'The Beatles' embossed on the front and individually numbered, this one is 'No. 0012851' . The cover was designed by artist, Richard Hamilton (in collaboration with Paul McCartney) and is in stark contrast to Peter Blake's elaborate and colourful sleeve for 'Sgt. Pepper'. Inside are 4 b&w portraits of the band members and a full track listing. The album originally came with a poster featuring a photo montage on one side and lyrics to the songs on the back. There were also 4 individual photographic portraits of the band members by John Kelly (Please note:- these are not present, unfortunately)

- From a visual inspection I would say this is VG, 'Very good' (Goldmine Grading system).
- No obvious marks, scratches or warping. The vinyl was dirty, but has cleaned up well (although I would suggest a further good clean before playing to be sure)
- Sleeve intact although a little grubby, with some ring and edge wear (see photos).
- Inner sleeves are in poor condition. One is held together with sellotape and both have big slits on all sides (see photos). However they do still manage to hold the records - just!
- Sadly, as noted above, the poster and the individual photo portraits are missing
