'FOURTH PROOF' SLEEVE

XEX 637-1 6 ADG / XEX 638-1 2 OPR (or RPO, depending on reading)
Offered for auction is the famous, and famously thin-on-the-ground, Sgt. Pepper's Fourth Proof sleeve.
The "Fourth Proof" sleeve represents the earliest possible pressing of the Sgt Pepper cover. The Fourth Proof was the final version of the various 'prototypes' that were explored by the Beatles when the cover was being designed. The cover (and text) was approved by the Beatles and an initial very small 'test' run... was undertaken to make sure everything looked OK. This small test run is characterised by the inverted "Fourth Proof" text in the top right hand corner of the inner gatefold - just above George Harrison's head. This is therefore the earliest possible 'prototype' (test pressing) cover. It was never intended that these test pressing covers should be used... and are now considered to be the rarest of all the Sgt Pepper covers.
To summarise, a Fourth Proof sleeve is identified by the presence, on the gatefold flaps, of:
- The text 'Fourth Proof'
- The codes 'AR' and 'D13217'
The contrast of both front and gatefold images is slightly different to the 'release' version of the Sgt. Pepper sleeve.
All elements from the original release are present.
Please look at the 'gallery' images which are of the item the auction-winner will receive.
The vinyl LP, with 'KT' tax-stamps, grades at VG to VG+. A few light surface scratches; a couple of tiny nicks which may affect play. Bear in mind that there is an abundance of contemporary 'Sgt. Pepper' UK vinyl available on ebay, so this LP can be easily replaced if desired. The sleeve is the vital element of this auction
The vinyl LP will be shipped outside of the sleeve to eliminate possibility of seam-damage in transit
If postage is less than the amount paid at 'checkout', I will refund the difference. Shipping will be via a trackable 'signature-required on delivery' service. I do not 'under-value' the parcel for Customs/Duty purposes; please don't ask me to do so if my refusal will offend.
