THE BEATLES   -    ‘Please Please Me’ / ‘Ask Me Why’     7”     UK      1963      Parlophone   45-R 4983

Highly prized and collectable original RED Parlophone label pressing of the second Beatles single.     Only the very first pressings of ‘Please Please Me’ have Red labels as Parlophone switched to the more familiar Black label design for their singles very soon after the release of this single in January 1963.

Becoming increasingly harder to find in decent condition.

“The Parlophone Co.Ltd.”  label text in lower case.

“RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1963”  label text.

NO “Sold in The UK” label text.  Parlophone didn’t include this text until 1964.

“MADE IN GT. BRITAIN”  label text.

“M P T” tax code stamped in run-off groove area.

7XCE 17217 – 1N   &    7XCE 17218 – 1N     matrix numbers.

“2 T”    &    “1 T”   stamper codes.

Comes in original coloured wavy-line paper sleeve with small box on front and larger box on the back – sometimes referred to as “sleeve type A” in collecting circles. 

CONDITION:        I strive to provide an accurate and honest appraisal of condition.  It’s in my best interests to do so.  I WANT YOU TO COME BACK!    All records are checked in good light and play tested at a loud volume (unless described as sealed, brand new or stated otherwise).       STRICT   U.K. MAGAZINE  'RECORD COLLECTOR'  GRADING SYSTEM USED.  

Playing condition is graded as EX  for Aside  and  EX-  for Bside.    Very little lessening in sound quality.    Aside plays great with no obvious audible faults.   Bside has some background surface noise for the first 45 seconds of the track.  This is only minor and more audible during the silent pauses of the track. This soon dissipates leaving the rest of the side a solid EX, if not better.    Overall great playing condition for a record nearly 50 years old!     NO loud obtrusive crackle,   NO loud distortion,    NO repetitive pops/clicks.    NO jumps,   NO sticking. 

Visually the vinyl is no worse than EX-, if not better than this grade.   Several light surface marks only.  Absolutely nothing that feels to the touch or has any obvious impact on play.     Vinyl looks nice and clean and retains its original sheen.    One of the best looking and sounding examples of this particular rare single I have ever seen. 

Labels in  EX- condition.     All prongs of the push-out centre are firmly attached to the rest of the disc.       Some spindle marks are evident (more on Bside) when looked at in a certain angle.    All text perfectly readable.     NO tears.  NO stickers.  NO writing. 

Original Parlophone paper sleeve is in superb condition.   Mild crumpling only.   NO seam splits.  NO tears.  NO stickers   NO writing.

MINT The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint

EXCELLENT (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG) The record has obviously been played many times but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratches. Normal wear and tear on the cover and extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable

GOOD (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeable deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and or deface

POOR (P) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing

BAD (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken and is only of use as a collection filler
