A superb early UK mono copy of The Beatles’ debut LP, Please Please Me, issued on the classic yellow/black Parlophone label and housed in the highly desirable large “mono” Ernest J. Day front-laminated flipback sleeve.

This is not the black/gold first pressing, but it is a genuinely early 1963 UK mono issue with the key later-1963 label features: “Recording first published 1963”, The Parlophone Co. Ltd perimeter text, no “Sold in U.K.” statement, and no 33⅓ printed left of centre.

The standout feature is the sleeve. Early Please Please Me sleeves are so often tired, stained, written on, split, repaired or heavily creased. This example is unusually clean and highly presentable, grading a strong EX, with no writing and excellent display appeal.

CONDITION & PLAYBACK

Vinyl: VG+
Visually the record shows a normal level of light hairline marks and sleeve-removal traces, fully commensurate with a 1963 Beatles LP that has been played and enjoyed.

Playback is a strong VG+. There is some surface noise in the quieter spaces and between tracks, but the actual music plays with real strength, energy and presence. The tracks themselves come through very well, making this a highly enjoyable playback copy rather than merely a visual collector piece.

Sleeve: EX
This is the major strength of the copy. The large mono Ernest J. Day sleeve is very clean and highly presentable, with no writing and no major visual distractions. There is only light age-related handling and edge/corner wear, but overall it presents far better than most surviving early Please Please Me mono sleeves.
