The Beatles : Let It Be 2U/2U 1st Press 1970 (Red Apple on Back Cover)

This genuine first pressing plays with superb quality across both sides with no interference!  Having played every track in full I can safely say the clarity and definition of the audio is absolutely stunning!  Based on the spindle wear you can tell it has been played a few times but the original sonic quality is still there, it has not been affected in any way.  The vinyl also has some light marking here but again this has no impact on the audio quality.  There are so many highlights here but it really is the clarity of sound that really stands out.  No intrusive ticks, clicks, pops and no static either.

The cover is in lovely condition with only very minimal wear and is of course fully laminated.  As this is a first pressing it has the red Apple logo on the back.  The inner sleeve is also in great condition.

The 2U/2U first pressings were not only issued with the original box set as some were set aside to be released individually and the same applies to the collectable red Apple cover also.

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a glossy sheen but does have some light marking.  The good news is that it has no affect on the audio!  S1 just has some faint hairlines and some a few small faint scuff type lines and S2 does have a longish scuff type hairline but like I say these are superficial because they have no bearing on the audio.  You can only see them when you hold the vinyl under a bright light.  There are no actual scratches.  The run out grooves are very clean and the Apple labels are in great shape with just a little spindle wear.

Play grading  

The spoken intro from Lennon on 'Two Of Us' has no background and it then plays with sublime clarity and depth from then onwards.  In essence it plays 'as new' where you can hear each note so clearly and there is nothing to detract from the superb Mint quality of the audio not even on the end 'whistle' and fade out.

'Dig A Pony' plays with stunning audio from the get go and this standard is maintained throughout.  Once again I am struck by the wonderful depth and warmth of the audio and already you know this record has not been on a turntable many times.  From start to finish there are no negatives and Mint is again 100% deserved.

'Across The Universe' plays with immaculate precision with no background.  You just have to sit back and admire the sonic quality on offer here!  You could say it's over-produced but it is nonetheless a Mint version.

The rockier 'I Me Mine' plays with great power and definition and again there is no intrusion on the audio.  Mint

The brief 'Dig It' plays perfectly with no interference.  Mint

The piano intro on the classic 'Let It Be' has not even a single dust tick and McCartney's opening vocal is just as impressive.  It continues to play with a clarity, depth and warmth that cannot be faulted in any way, it truly is a stunning version.  Towards the end there is only the bare minimum of inner groove distortion and it does not intrude on the quality of the listen.  Mint- is a fair representation of the audio.

'Maggie Mae' ends the side with genuine quality once more.  Another Mint- version.

The intro on 'I've Got A Feeling' has no background and thereafter plays with great precision and again because the vinyl is so clean the real depth of the audio is very much in evidence.  With a definite 'live' feel to it the playback could not be any stronger and it provides a Mint start to S2.

'One After 909' plays with STUNNING quality from the first note to the last.  Taken from their famous 30th Jan '69 rooftop performance it grades as Mint no need for a minus even :-)

The classic 'The Long And Winding Road' plays with sensational audio through every vocal and instrumental section.  McCartney may not have been pleased with the final version due to Spector's input but there is no denying the quality of the audio.  The vocals play to perfection and the orchestral pieces also play with stunning precision and there is none of the static distortion that you regularly find on this first pressing.  A breath-taking Mint version in every sense.

The acoustic intro on 'For You Blue' is flawless and during the first vocal I noticed just a couple of mega light ticks.  From then on it plays with great depth and warmth and just one other barely audible tick.  Mint-

The studio chat at the beginning of 'Get Back' has no interference and McCartney's first vocal is equally as good.  Despite being the final track on the side it continues to play with wonderful clarity and depth.  There are no ticks, clicks, pops or static and there is no obvious distortion either.  The edited in 'chat' at the end, again from the '69 rooftop concert, has no background and I have no hesitation in grading this as Mint- as there really are no faults.  A superb end to the album.

In summary this first pressing plays with stunning quality and remarkably there is no interference.  This is obviously up there with the best versions I have ever heard and has clearly been so well preserved and only lightly played over the decades.  The clarity, depth and warmth of the audio is STUNNING and qualifies as a FINAL UPGRADE version for sure.  As stated it does have that over-produced tag but obviously I'm not grading it on that!  I'm basing it on the actual audio quality and wow is it good!  It basically could not play with any greater precision and in conjunction with a very impressive cover this will add to any high end collection.

The Cover & Inner Sleeve

The fully laminated red Apple G & L cover is in excellent condition with only minimal wear.  The edges and thin spine are in perfect shape and all the corners are extremely clean with barely any wear.  The opening edge is pristine also.  The front cover is in great shape with just a little creasing / laminate lift in the top left corner and a small crease near the right edge next to Harrison.  The back cover if anything is even better with just a corresponding crease top right.  It has retained its original shape and structure so well which can only mean it has not been handled very much.  A superb example.

I'm not entirely sure if this is the original inner but it nevertheless remains in excellent condition with no side splits, tears or marking and only light creasing.
