Description
I have the pleasure to list from one eccentric owner a large and superb collection of 1960’s singles: all in at least excellent condition and many in as mint condition as can be found. I have discovered many that are actually in unplayed mint condition, but I have decided to grade them cautiously as in Near Mint.
Some of the labels have stickers or have the original price written in pen or pencil on one side. I have graded these cautiously to be in very good condition, even though they may have no signs of spindle marks and the record may not have been played.
Brown cards had replaced a few of the original sleeves and therefore I have substituted these for other company sleeves or new white sleeves.
SOME BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The wife of an officer who was serving abroad throughout the sixties bought these records for her husband from her local record shop and stored them unplayed and safely in boxes. Her husband would make a note of records he had heard on the radio and send her exacting lists.
When he returned from service many years later he discovered just how many she had bought on his behalf but only played a few from the entire collection. The few he did play, he played just a few times, but the vast majority were not even played, remaining in mint condition.
He then began to list each record in a book, with the name of the artist, song, record label, catalogue number, and date of release and even a short note on his personal preference of the song! Some records he played more than others and some he stuck a numbered label on to help him catalogue his collection. Some of the records have the original price (3/6 is the average), which his wife wrote on some of the labels (so she could claim her money back!)
He gave up collecting records in 1970 when he believed that “music was no longer music anymore!”
His next hobby was collecting trains and train sets, which I am also selling, on this lady’s behalf.
Sadly he passed away a few years ago and now his widow would like the records to go to other collectors. She is going to keep his book for sentimental reasons.
All photographs are of the actual record, photographed in natural daylight and at an angle so that spindle and other marks can be clearly seen.
Most of these records are an amazingly 38-48 years old!
