Label Conditions: Both in superb condition: ultra clean, fresh and attractive with only light and mostly faint spindle marks – indeed, side one has hardly any at all. (Please see label scan).

Cat Number: CPCS 106 [second press export copy].

Mode / Speed: Stereo / 33.3 rpm.

Weight of this Record: 114 grams. A fairly typical weight for this pressing.

Rarity: I will seldom state any standard issue Beatles record is rare or even scarce. But this one is a little more elusive and condition is always a major factor. So many of their albums were played into submission and hardly worth a second glance (or listen these days). This one is simply stunning with a gorgeous cover, looks and pristine sound. Such copies are more elusive.

Brief Artist & Album Info: The final swansong Beatles album, issued after the split and not as easy to find as most in their catalogue. What an astonishing copy this is too, UK pressed and one the best I have ever heard bar none. Most will know the songs included here, but I would suggest few have heard them played with such stunning sound and clarity. If ever a piece of vinyl was an advert for the virtues of quality analogue recordings, this is a strong contender. The songs, some with unique mixes and high-end hi-fi dynamics and detail will thrill. The cover, inner sleeve, record and labels all indicate this has been very well looked-after and came from a top quality collection and hardly played. Both labels and cover has the early CPCS 106 number which confirms it’s vintage and being a second press export copy.

Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT(++): and this being ultra critical, this is a superb example. A single format, laminated front and back and printed and made in England by Garrod & Lofthouse. Includes an equally impressive EMI inner sleeve.

Lamination – Front & Back: Both sides look really strong – the front grades near mint and has little to fault bar an ultra fine surface crease near the top, only seen with scrutiny under light. The back almost the same, with a fine crease near the top right corner, this a fraction more noticeable on the intense black backdrop. Both sides has laminate very shiny, clear and fresh and all is fully adhered with barely any other creases seen at all – this very unusual on what is quite a thin and delicate cover. Clearly, the back is highly revealing being so black, so faint dulling around the rim shape is nigh-on impossible to avoid totally – here, any present is very light and faint, but can be seen again under angled light. If any such copy of this can be found with none, you are indeed very lucky indeed, but hardly gets much lighter than this and little at all spoils what is an outstanding example of this famous Beatles cover.

Top Edge: Practically as manufactured: this has text as per the spine edge, all unworn and present under smooth, clear and unpeeled laminate.

Bottom Edge: Unworn and just as impressive as the top.

Right Edge(s), and Type: Very clean, ultra sharp with virtually no wear and untrimmed. Record enters on this edge.

Spine and Text: A stunning spine that looks practically brand new: solid (but thin), straight, no compression worthy of mention and totally unworn. All text is pristine perfect and well centred on the narrow depth. No drying, cracking or creasing at all – they simply don’t get better.

Corners: All little short of Mint as made, no tip rubs, dinks, creases and all retain perfect 90 degree pointed shape – like incredible, but true.

Cover Summary: A terrific all-round example of this classic late-era Beatles cover, one that will prove immensely difficult to find better. This hugely attractive item should please most-all collectors.

The Inner Sleeve: PRACTICALLY MINT: a superb EMI unlined inner that looks practically as made, little else to add really.

Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: MINT(-), practically mint bar near microscopic ultra fine and faint surface traces as seen directly under a 150 watt bulb (that I use to view all my records). A superb visual copy that could almost pass for new. Super clean, with deep shine, intense black and fairly solidly pressed. This pressing really utilises the space available to it with a wide spread of the groove widths to maximise sound quality – no frequency compression worries here as seen on multi-track compilations and the like. A copy barely played on all the evidence. Visually a super record that should please most-all collectors again.

Album Played For Grading: Yes. [I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness – I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing B&W speakers that include the legendary tweeter from their awesome Nautilus range that reveals every blemish or minuscule sound present on any record.]

Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quite magnificent record plays up to it’s high visual grading with nothing to fault. Very powerful, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is of reference audiophile standard with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound, this is a top class recording and takes you directly into the recording studio. The definition of the instruments and vocals have an ‘in-the-room’ quality and every little fragment of detail can be heard clearly. Any surface sounds barely registered and no pops or clicks were noted, few copies, from whatever pressing will play better than this. Both channels are clean and sharp, I feel very sure this record has been played very lightly and has been very well stored and looked after within a non-smoking environment. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this supreme copy and my LP12 simply excelled on this one taking the sound information to new heights. This record will prove near impossible to find significantly better and merits my highest possible recommendation.

The record’s cover will be placed within a BRAND NEW soft protective sleeve and the actual record will be professionally cleaned on my new VPI-17 Pro vacuum system to give ultimate clean grooves and playing surfaces and the best possible looks and ultimate sound quality. You will NOT get tired, dull looking, dust infested records inside worn and foggy covers with tatty inners from this seller and that’s a promise and guarantee. All records are posted in professional boxes (NOT Mailers, these do not offer any real protection). The record(s) are REMOVED from their main cover to avoid edge splits and placed within a brand new polylined inner. The record’s original inner will be included if available. SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE

My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks = Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch = a needle mark that goes below the record’s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original = a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing = A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that’s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like ‘Early Copy’ rather than ‘First Pressing’ if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound = Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion = Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus – the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering = Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, actually a printer’s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area – this is mostly unavoidable or course.

The Argument for Vinyl Original sound and mix (mono mixes are rarely available on CD), high quality sound on clean copies (played on a hi-end dedicated analogue system – breathtaking sound!), beautiful, large format covers, artwork, inserts and even full size posters etc; huge investment potential, and the pleasure of owning ‘the real thing’.
