Description

THE BEATLES – ABBEY ROAD LP - MISALIGNED APPLE - ORIGINAL STEREO.

1969 PCS 7088 -  APPLE RECORD LABEL.

A REALLY EXCELLENT UK first press album in 100% original condition featuring a  Misaligned APPLE logo mispress on the rear of the sleeve.  Also the  track ‘Her Majesty’ DOES appear on the record label, this is unusual for  a first pressing.

CONDITION:

MAIN SLEEVE:  is in excellent condition, it is very noticeable the high quality of these earlier records,  for example the ‘mirror like’  full laminated sleeve and the dark rich colours make this a very attractive record package.  The spine is in excellent  condition and all the text  is clear.  This being the very first press, printed in August 1969, the rear of the sleeve features a ‘misprinted’ or misaligned APPLE logo.   Once spotted by EMI the sleeve was soon corrected, but not before some of these sleeves  had  escaped  onto the public market.  On the normal sleeve the Apple logo is aligned with the left margin of the text.

INNER SLEEVE: is in very good condition, it has a ‘Patent no’  printed  on it.   There is no damage or  Biro writing on it.

VINYL:  is in excellent+ condition and being a first pressing it is of the early ‘thick, heavy’ type,  the Matrix nos. are YEX 749-2 and YEX 750-1,  the Mother/Stampers are :  ‘9  1  2   OHO’  and  ‘1   MHO’  the vinyl is very dark and very glossy.   The audio is excellent, in fact this is the best Abbey Road audio I have ever heard,  the playback is  an absolute joy to listen to with NO background distortion,  it plays amazingly well and has a  fantastic powerful Stereo sound balance,  the vinyl lays flat on the turntable and plays with NO jumps or skips.

THE LABELS:  are in excellent condition and being a first pressing show a DARK Green Apple,  as mention certainly most of these first pressing excluded the track ‘Her Majesty’ from the record label, BUT on this copy it is included !.  Also due to the limited space on the side Two label,  the publishing credit to the song ‘The End,  has been left off  all together !,  to make way to just about squeeze in the track  ‘ Her Majesty’ !    Also its interesting to note,  with this change to the record label on side Two, the ‘33 and one third’ text appears SMALLER  than on side One of the labels !.

I am using the official grading system from Record Collector Magazine.

Grading System

The seven standard condition categories and a description of what each one means are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

+  or  – :  indicates a grading in between categories.
