Surf’s Up marked a shift from surf rock into introspective, socially conscious songwriting for the Beach Boys.
Feel Flows became the album’s best-known deep cut after Cameron Crowe used it in Almost Famous.
Side two is widely considered one of the strongest sequences the group ever recorded.
This is an original US first pressing on Brother/Reprise, catalog RS 6453.
Pressed at Columbia Terre Haute — one of three plants running this album at once to meet 1971 demand.
Mastered at Artisan Sound Recorders.
Founded by Bob MacLeod in the 1960s, Artisan was Hollywood’s first independent disc mastering studio, cutting lacquers for major-label releases through the 1970s.
Produced by The Beach Boys.
Single-pocket jacket, heavy 1971 cardboard stock, original gloss finish now faded with age.
Yellow Brother Records/Reprise Records labels.
