The Capitol Years is a 7-LP box set which documents The Beach Boys' career with the Capitol Records label, originally released in 1980 through Readers Digest as a 7-LP boxed set, which included an LP of Brian Wilson's non-Beach Boys productions for Capitol. In 1988 EMI Records Australia released a 6 audio cassette version in a plastic case with booklet. It features 106 tracks from their time with Capitol.

"The Beach Boys-The Capitol Years" began its' life as a 7 L.P. set from EMI/UK's mail-order subsidiary "World Records" and was later released in identical form by Toshiba/EMI in Japan.The set has 6 compilation albums of 1960's Beach Boys hits and selected album tracks.The 7th compilation is "The Brian Wilson Productions", a collection of Wilson songwriting and production efforts for other Capitol artists. Be cautioned that the only CD edition that presents the 7 L.P. set complete is the Toshiba/EMI 7-CD boxed set Japanese edition.The Australian set presents the vol.1-6 complete on a 4-CD set,but lacks "The Brian Wilson Productions" bonus album.

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted below, ALL records are graded visually, NOT play-graded!)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new (a few sides - about 4 out of 14 - have a few minor scuffs; nothing to write home abou t).

(b)          The records come in their original custom inner sleeves, unique to this title.

(c)           In addition, the records come in their original poly-lined “Made in Great Britain” stock inner sleeve.

(d)          The album  comes with the original 38-page booklet intact.

(e)           The records are pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(f)            Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (BOX):

THE BOX IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the box:

-        The top (lid) of the box has completely separated from the bottom (the spine has split along entire length); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of like-colored (beige) packaging tape

-        Box has all four corners split (also repaired with the beige paper tape)

-        The box has some visible fraying/tattering on the seams (mostly camouflaged by the tape)

-        Two small water stains noted along the spine (less than 2 square inch in size, total)

-        The box has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3

-        The lid has a small wrinkle in one top corner

-        The box shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-        The box has a few tiny scratch marks on the back panel (nothing significant)
