Description
THE BAND Music From Big Pink (Capitol ST 2955) Dylan RARE UK 1st Pressing MINT-
Very RARE, early UK pressing of The Band`s "Music From Big Pink", released on Capitol Records (July 1968).
What can one say about "Music From Big Pink" that hasn`t already been said? Along with The Byrds` "Sweetheart Of The Rodeo" (August 1968), this record almost singlehandedly rang in rock`s post-psychedelic era. The folk music influences and laid-back instrumentation on "Music From Big Pink" signalled a widening of popular music`s spectrum that was unprecedented. Needless to say, this record is a classic in every sense of the word.
GRADING:
EX+(+) COVER with a bit of general wear. Please see photos for details.
- Original threefold flip-back sleeve, as found on UK first pressings only. Date-stamped "6810" (October 1968) in bottom right corner of rear sleeve.
- Unlaminated rear sleeve, with minimal record outline and slight "speckling", due to age.
- Dent to bottom corner of opening edge, as well as a small corner crease.
- Five small creases along the cover spine.
- Cover has a small punch-hole at top, center. The previous owner literally strung some of his favourite records up in his student pad; "Music From Big Pink" was one of them.
Now for the good news...
MINT(-) RECORD that looks practically unplayed. Simply stunning condition for its age!
- A few of the very lightest, superficial hairlines from sleeve removal only.
- Absolutely immaculate labels with no spindle wear whatsoever!
- RARE first-press Capitol labelling with reference: "Sold in U.K. subject to resale price conditions, see price lists."
- Absolutely impeccable, "as new" audio reproduction throughout the record, with no background crackle whatsoever! Obviously, this record wasn`t played more than a very few times in over 45 years.
- Also includes original custom-printed EMI Records inner sleeve in EX++ condition and without seam splits.
- Matrix stamps read "ST 1 2955 - A5" and "ST 2 2955 - B6", respectively. Though not a very first pressing of "Music From Big Pink", this is still a very early pressing from October 1968, as stated on the rear cover.
NOTE: This record comes from an extensive, single-owner collection of progressive and folk-rock records we recently acquired. These records were all bought at the time of initial release (1960-1970). Most are original UK or US first pressings. Due to the size of the collection, most of the records were played a few times only: They will be found to be in the appropriate condition.
