Description
Teddy Wilson and his Orchestra, with Billie Holiday
(Benny Goodman, Jonah Jones, Ben Webster, Alan Reuss,
John Kirby,Cozy Cole)
I Can’t Give You Anything But Love, Baby
Sailin’
Brunswick 7781
The music:
New York, November 19 1936. The side of most interest is “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love”, which is kicked off by Teddy, then Jonah Jones and Teddy each solo before Billie’s chorus, then Ben holds the attention with a well-judged solo before an ensemble ride-out. This is definitely one of Billie’s nicer vocals, heartfelt, touching, and without harshness. “Sailin’” is a bright, up-tempo Teddy original, without vocal, featuring solo choruses by Jonah, Teddy and Benny before a rousing ensemble climax.
Rarity:
Perhaps one of the easier-to-find Wilson Brunswicks.
Condition:
E+, but there is a small abrasion on s1 which sounds feintly and unobtrusively for a few spins.
Postage at cost.
