    Description

Ted Curson - The New Thing & The Blue Thing Atlantic Records 1441 1965 US Issue
WLP* (White label promo), heavy vinyl, mono.
Condition - Cover: EX. Vinyl: NM.
Personnel Ted Curson (trumpet) Bill Barron (tenor saxophone) Georges Arvanitas (piano) Herb Bushler (bass) Dick Berk (drums)  recorded NYC, March 25 & 29, 1965, engineer Tom Dowd.
Among the last issues of mono at Atlantic, before the eponymous blue-green stereo label swept all before it. These late Atlantic mono issues include some great sounding records.
The New and Blue Thing is an exemplar of Atlantic Tom Dowd’s solid engineering, plump room-filling mono, well suited to  Curson’s rich tonal palette, Bill Barron’s gritty edgy tenor and George Arvanites  “Pearson-esque” supporting flow"
from wikipedia.com The New Thing & the Blue Thing is an album by American trumpeter Ted Curson which was recorded in 1965 and released on the Atlantic label.  JazzTimes stated " Curson's soaring lines and brilliant trumpet sound are well-matched by Barron, who was at the top of his form on this date. Neither was really an avantgardist by 1965 standards, but both were interesting modern voices whose best work came when they were pushing the limits".  Jazz Review said "Most of this session is fairly straightahead hard-bop, played with great but unsurprising elan, recalling the Blue Note & Prestige glory days. But the last two tunes, "Reava's Waltz" and "Elephant Walk," Curson & Co. really soar with some fiery solos and some jagged, volatile Mingus-inspired writing and ensemble playing".

*regarding WLP Generally promo copies of LPs were the first made from the stampers and in some cases were made using higher quality vinyl than the commercial pressings. The designation WLP the label may or may not be white, but will somewhere say promotional copy printed on the label.

this lp is over 1 lb and must ship either Media Mail or Priority Mail in the USA. ATTN US BUYERS: REGARDING SHIPPING. I am shipping from Hawaii. I stopped offering media mail on packages under 1 lb. because the eBay, Paypal, and USPS estimated time for delivery is incorrect on all my listings: it ignores a sea journey and I don't want to mislead customers. With the new rates I can ship 1st Class (3-5 days) for about the same cost as media mail. Shipping time for media mail from Hawaii can be 3-5 weeks.  Packages over 1 lb. have to ship either media mail or Priority Mail  (most single LPs are under 1 lb except gatefold and heavy vinyl).

PAYMENT TERMS:

Payment preferred as soon as possible. Expected within 3 Days. Required within 7 Days unless other arrangements are made via e-mail. The sooner it is paid for, the sooner it will be shipped. Thank you.

SHIPPING TERMS:

SHIPPING INFO All LPs wrapped in bubble wrap and shipped in cardboard record mailer. Shipping cost calculated by weight at exact USPS rate plus $2.00 for packing materials, etc.

Attn. US Customers I offer media mail and priority mail for packages over 16 ounces or 1st Class Mail if under 16oz as shipping options. Please be aware that Media Mail from Hawaii to the mainland can take 3-5 weeks (not 4-11 days as it says in eBay and Paypal's prefilled shipping menu) versus 3-5 days for priority and 1st Class mail.

All US shipments include USPS tracking number. Optional Tracking for International shipments available with Registered Mail* ($13.95 extra) or Priority Mail International, which is expensive - send a message if you require international tracking and I will update the invoice.

Insurance available on request at USPS rate.

Combined Shipping available - charge calculated by weight of the package.

note: the pricing between 1st Class Mail (under 16 Ounces) and Priority Mail (over 16 ounces) are not proportionate so combing a shipment of a single LP to the USA may not save money unless shipped media mail - if you want to purchase more than one single LP contact me for the shipping options.

*Registered Mail takes a bit longer delivery time because the package is hand transferred at each stop along the way.
