The Paul Bley Synthesizer Show label & cat. no.:
Milestone MSP 9033 pressed in:
USA date:
1971 format:
LP condition:
Vinyl: ex- (couple thin unfeelable scuffs, looks barely played)
Cover: vg+ (light wear) description:
Hard to find lp with jazz-influenced, improvisation-based early electronic avant-pop-funk led by Paul Bley on ARP Synthesizer and RMI electric piano and composed by Annette Peacock. Contributing musicians include Dick Youngstein, bass, Steve Haas, drums, Glen Moore, bass, Frank Tusa, bass, and Bobby Moses, drums. This is one of the earliest ARP lps, and documents Bley's period of performing on the primitive synthesizer with his jazz band, when they toured as "The Paul Bley Synthesizer Show" introducing the ARP to worldwide audiences.

artist info from album notes etc.:
Avant garde jazz pianist Bley played with Charlie Mingus, Charlie Parker, Jackie McLean, Chet Baker, Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, Charlie Haden, Billy Higgins, Sonny Rollins, and Don Ellis, and has been compared to Cecil Taylor and Keith Jarrett. Peacock is a singer and composer who was an early participant in Timothy Leary's experiments with psychedelics, pioneered electronic vocal processing techniques with Robert Moog, married jazz bassist Gary Peacock, and worked with Albert Ayler, Paul Bley, Salvador Dali, Allan Holdsworth, Bill Bruford, Coldcut, David Bowie, Busta Rhymes, J-Live, RZA, Brian Eno, Morcheeba, Pat Metheny, and Al Kooper. Should be of interest to fans of unique vintage synthesizer sounds like Raymond Scott, Jean-Michel Jarre, Paul Beaver, Bernie Krause, Mu-Ziq, Claude Denjean, Bruce Haack, Dick Hyman, Tomita, Vangelis, Roger Roger, Cecil Leuter, Mort Garson, Jean-Jacques Perrey/Mr. Ondioline, Gershon Kingsley, Gil Melle, Piero Umiliani, Stereolab, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Matmos, Pierre Henry, Tom Dissevelt, Theremin, Robert Moog, Donald Buchla, Chappell Recorded Music Library, Roger Roger, Cecil Leuter, DJ Premier, Oskar Sala, trautonium, Morton Subotnick, John Eaton, Donald Erb, Piero Umiliani, Kraftwerk, and Gil Melle. Other Info - Feel free to email me if you have any questions (need more info, want more pictures, etc.); you can use the 'ask a question' link below. Records are visually graded unless otherwise noted; my condition rating scale is M (sealed) / NM (unplayed) / EX (barely used) / VG (some evident wear from prior use but no major flaws) / G (major flaws). All included album inserts are pictured in the listing; what you see is what you get, if I know an insert is missing I will mention it in the description.
