SYD BARRETT - 'THE MADCAP LAUGHS'
1970 UK PRESSING LP
This Excellent UK pressing is on the green & yellow Harvest label: SHVL 765
Both labels include EMI boxed logos with 'Gramophone Co..' rim texts.
The discs are housed in an outer laminated 'Ernest J. Day' printed gatefold cover.
Complete with original 'UK Patent No.' plain white inner-sleeve.
Matrix numbers: SHVL 765 A-2G & SHVL 765 B-2G

A bright and unfaded pair which display just a few light spindle trails and some minor age-related blemishes on label 2.
Visual: EXCELLENT
Both playing surfaces are extremely clean & glossy with the only visual blemish in strong daylight being a single light 2cm fingernail scuff mark on side 2. Close inspection directly beneath my halogen desk lamp reveals little more than a few harmless wispy inner-sleeve removal hairlines but certainly no scratches of any other significant visual wear.
Play: EXCELLENT +
This copy has recieved just a few careful plays on good equipment as there is no traces of any groove/play wear or background noise on or between any of the tracks. Apart from a few light ticks at the beginning of 'Peel', the entire album is also free from any other audible faults or distractions.
Cover
VERY GOOD +
A strong and fully intact example which retains its rich, high-gloss laminate all-round with no major faults or wear. The front & rear panels display minor storagewear & a few tiny spine wrinkles but no 'thumbnails' or other such wear. The corners are all clean & sharp with just minor shelfwear to the lower right but no tears or feathering to any opening edge (the front panel opening is sealed by the way). The inside of the gatefold is clean & unmarked with no writing or missing paper anywhere. All seams are smooth, unstressed & unsplit and the spine is fully laminate & worded.
Inner-sleeve
EXCELLENT
Clean & white with a few faint storage folds, but no splits, tears or writing.
- Strict & grading under strong daylight & directly beneath a halogen desk lamp to UK 'RECORD COLLECTOR' standards.
- I carefully play every record I sell on an EMT 950 transcription turntable at volume and list all visual and audible faults.
