Featuring the legendary Russian pianist Svjatoslav Richter with the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Stanislaw Wislocki, this LP captures both the passionate drama and lyrical beauty of Rachmaninoff’s most beloved concerto.

Also included are six of Rachmaninoff’s evocative Preludes, interpreted with Richter’s characteristic intensity and precision. Pressed in West Germany, this stereo LP is prized by collectors for its sonic clarity and historical significance.

The Russian pianist Svjatoslav Richter is now regarded as one of the most outstanding artists of the present day. He was born in 1915 at Zhitomir in the Ukraine, the son of a musical family of German extraction. His father, trained at the Vienna Conservatoire, was a highly regarded pianist and teacher; his mother a gifted amateur musician. He gave his first recital at age 19 in Odessa, and later studied under Heinrich Neuhaus in Moscow. In 1959, Richter traveled to Western Europe for the first time, and in 1960 achieved worldwide acclaim during his U.S.A. tour which culminated in triumphs in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
