Description
ARTIST: The Jades
LABEL: Time 1002 (1958)
TITLE: Leave Her For Me b/w So Blue
CONDITION:
Labels: Show some pretty heavy wear and the A Side has a name in ink
Record: This record has been played pretty heavily as evidenced by lots of light surface scuffs, marks and light groove wear but no real scratches. For what it looks like it plays a pretty amazing VG+ to VG++ w/ some light random background surface noise and a few light random background ticks on Side A. Side B also has a slight imperfection at the beginning of the side that causes a few very light whooshes. Side B plays w/ just a touch more surface noise than Side A but both still have great sound presence. I will try to post a sound clip of this 45 in the next couple of days. / VPI cleaned
COMMENTS: White label promo copy of Lou Reed's super rare 1958 Doo Wop 45 on Time. Hand written matrix numbers in the dead wax are 1120 b/w 1121
16 year-old Lou Reed wrote, played guitar, and sang back-up on these Doo Wop tunes recorded in 1958. Sax legend King Curtis was brought in to the studio to add his touch. Lou talked about this single recently in an interview he did on Elvis Costello's talk show, again claiming he was 14 at the time (still looks like he must've been 16). This white label promo of this record doesn't give Reed a writing credit for "So Blue. Very few stock or promo copies of this 45 were apparently pressed as evidenced by it's rarity.
The A Side is a fine midtempo ballad. The B Side is a cool uptempo track w/ nice background guitar and a blastin' sax solo.
Phil Harris, bandmate of Lou's in the Jades, talks about this 45 in an interview http://olivier.landemaine.free.fr/loureed/thejades/jades.html
A Holy Grail record for Lou Reed collectors!
NOTE: VPI cleaned means that this record was cleaned on a professional $500 cleaning machine, which does wonders for the playback of all vinyl records!
