Description
Sun Ra "Calling Planet Earth" Original VHS 1986 OVC Productions NTSC I Purchased this from a Sun Ra Concert in Oakland at Koncepts Cultural Gallery in 1986 from a table set up by Ra's folks. It's about 15 min and a music video.
This composition was created in 1986 when the Arkestra spent a week at Mission Control Studios where the OVC-2D was set up.
The audio and live-video tracks were cut on the first day, using a stage set featuring a circular keyboard station for Sun Ra surrounded by light panels created using sections of the original OVC masked into hieroglyphics. The Arkestra members then spent a couple of days recording extra visual tracks.
Afterward, I spent several weeks adding the abstract visuals and editing the composition. These were turned into VHS videos that the Arkestra sold at their concerts for the next few years... Bill Sebastian
