Baron Elmo Enterprises proudly presents a massive head-slammer of an lp, wrenched bleeding from the dark, gnashing maw of the SUN CITY GIRLS: Valentines From Matahari, released in 1993 on the group's own Majora label. This is a second edition copy, which had a paste-on front cover and pictures of other items from the Majora catalog on the back. Released a mere two years after their magnificent and definitive Torch of the Mystics lp, this album is steeped in the same sunbaked, twisted explorations of ethnic music that made Torch such a brainburner, but takes their sound in a far more rocking direction. The band's own website dug up this Forced Exposure description to capture this album's freaky vibe: "Mostly recorded live on earth (not necessarily in front of other humans), the material on Valentines is mixed blazingly loud, up front and in your face, particularly notable for the special crystalline nature of Rick Bishop's guitar playing – a melding of psychedelics, sharding post-Ginn scale extensions and Eastern-tinged luminosity. Alan Bishop's bass is in full accompanying force, pushing the improvisational zig zaggery element of the band to its core (although perhaps best known for his sparkling skills 'n manners of deception, manipulation & charm, Alan just might be the most significantly underrated bass player of the last 15 years!). Charles Gocher's clattering traps fill out the remaining spaces in the middle perfectly... A most significant record." This title has been out of print in all formats for ages.
