Recorded: London, 22nd and 29th November 1965.
An absolute classic of 1960s British jazz, featuring four stellar players,
and perhaps the best of the Dick Morrissey Quartet's three albums.
A 47- year old album in absolutely great shape.
I believe this to be a first or very early pressing. The matrices are:

This is the mono 1966 UK Mercury original, which is much scarcer
than the Nineties' Japanese vinyl reissue on Norma.
To my knowledge, there was no later UK reissue on vinyl.
VINYL
I have carefully play graded the album. Both sides play as ‘near new’.
There is a little slight surface noise on the silent vinyl run in to Side 2, track one,
before the track actually starts. Otherwise, there is only the very occasional slight hint of
a light click literally once or twice on the whole album! I haven’t had this disc VPI cleaned, however,
so it is likely that sonically it could be even better if you chose to do this.
There are a couple of very light superficial surface marks on the vinyl, on side two track one -
visible only under oblique light, and not 'feel-able'. They do not affect play in any way.
The vinyl still looks great.
Graded conservatively. It is rare that I describe anything as ‘near mint’
(as I don’t believe in ‘mint’, unless an album is literally straight out of the pressing plant).
I am certain that many sellers would describe this one as 'near mint' without hesitation.
However, I think I must grade both sleeve and vinyl as a strong 'EXCELLENT'+
My gradings, BTW, are in terms of UK 'Record Collector' gradings, rather than US GEMM ones.
The labels are very clean. No writing, labels or tears. There are a couple of very slight marks
on the side two label (see my label close-up photos), where the ink looks just slightly faded.
However they are not in any way unsightly. The labels themselves are a textured matt finish.
There is no noticeable centre hole wear. There are some slight visible spindle marks on both sides,
but the album has clearly been treated with loving care and sounds like it has only been played
on a very decent system.
I've included a couple of photos of the vinyl itself (always a hard thing to capture!)
at the end of my pictures, to give you an indication.
SLEEVE
Flip-back sleeve, front laminated.
Glossy front cover is still beautifully clean and shiny. Just one tiny 'thumb mark' crease
(on Dick’s left shoulder in pic) – barely visible.
There is also a tiny amount of 'laminate lifting' - not unsightly - on the front cover
along part of the spine edge (see photos).
Rear cover has only the very slightest patina of age.
Virtually no edge wear – some very slight edge creasing at top and bottom.
Corners have absolutely minimal wear.
The back has some slight 'bubbling' in the centre of the paper 'past over'–
but it is not too unsightly.
I suspect this actually dates from the time of manufacture,
as several of the handful of other original copies that I’ve seen sold
feature the same slight imperfection. This also looks a little more
pronounced in my photos that it does in actuality.
No marks, tears or writing on cover.
Because of the relative scarcity of original pressings of this album,
it will be sent 'tracked' and 'signed' for, and (as always), securely and safely packed
with the LP housed outside the sleeve and with sufficient stiffeners and a durable mailer.
