"Reissue of mega rare, highly sought-after, UK folk psych private pressing. This one has a very dark sound not a million miles away from the first Comus record, but with an earthy recording quality—the whole thing has a definite Wicker Man occult-ish vibe about it. The Stone Angel album lays down the blueprint for regional British psych/folk with songs built around local legends and mythologies and the kind of dosed settings of 12-string guitar, jaws harp, flute, mandolin, dulcimer and electric guitar that would perfectly balance an ancient, magical atmosphere with the kind of ritual settings of Japan’s Ghost. Fragile male and female vocals and the use of tape and effects make this a truly radical, breakthrough set, with a crude, straight to tape appeal and an overwhelmingly dusty, out of time, dreamlike/drone atmosphere. No filler, every song cuts straight to the heart of the hidden reverse. An all-time masterpiece, very highly recommended!
