Format: deluxe box set for ‘Armed Forces’, the third studio album from Elvis Costello & The Attractions, released in January 1979 and produced by Nick Lowe. Costello was 23 years old when he wrote and recorded the music for the album. This super deluxe edition was personally curated by Elvis Costello, and fully embraces Barney Bubbles' epic package art. It features 9 pieces of vinyl, 7 custom notebooks containing updated liner notes from Costello and his handwritten lyrics from the era. The album receives a brand-new remaster from the original production master tapes with the sonic fidelity matching the original 1979 UK pressing. Along with selections from the Hollywood High show, there are 3 more concerts, 23 never released live songs including the full Pink Pop 1979 set and highlights from the notorious Riot at The Regent concert and the December 24, 1978, Dominion Theatre.
Condition: Heavyweight Barney-Bubbles designs across the outer box, which is minimum excellent condition with a few minor surface indentations, but no splits, tears or rubbing, and with small wear points on the base corner points. One moderate mark in the centre of the base of the box (see photo’s).
All the vinyl is un-played, apart from the album ‘Armed Forces’ which has been played twice on my high-end Marantz deck, as I wanted to hear the remastered disk and compare it to my 1st UK press. None of other pieces have been handled, opened, or played! I have noticed in unpacking it that the 7” single for ‘Olivers Army’ has a slightly ‘chewed’ top right hand corner to the picture sleeve (see photo), which I can only assume occurred at the assembly stage. NB. This is the black vinyl NOT coloured vinyl set. Overall grading a minimum excellent condition!
