RARE 1971 MONO WHITE LABEL PROMO — EXCELLENT VINYL / POOR JACKET — HISTORICAL TIME CAPSULE
An incredibly rare, historically significant White Label Promo MONO DJ Copy of Stephen Stills 2 (Atlantic Records SD 7206), released in July 1971. While the outer jacket has taken heavy wear over the past 50+ years, the vinyl disc inside is in stunning, Excellent shape, making this the ultimate audio upgrade for a serious Atlantic Records or CSNY discography collector. The History Behind This Pressing When Atlantic Records originally printed the gatefold jacket for Stephen Stills 2 in 1971, the lyrics printed on the inside of the gatefold were riddled with errors. To fix this without scrapping the covers, the factory rushed out a large text correction strip affixed over the back cover. This specific copy features the ultra-rare factory lyrics correction update strip text noting matrix adjustments (A-13685 and A-13686 PR) and specific musical corrections highlighting the addition of the "snare drum". Furthermore, this is a true Mono promotional radio mix. In the early 1970s, special dedicated mono mixes were pressed in very limited quantities exclusively for AM/FM radio stations to prevent phase cancellation over broadcast towers. These mono mixes offer a punchier, heavier rhythm section and forward vocals that completely outshine standard commercial stereo pressings. Promotional Label & Cover Artifacts Present:
- White Factory Labels: Crisp, white promotional labels printed with "Sample Copy - Not For Sale".
- Front Cover Orange Sticker: Original radio-distribution "MONO" designation sticker.
- Front Cover Yellow & Black Sticker: Original "DJ Suggested Cuts" programming sticker.
- Back Cover Correction Strip: The original unpeeled factory correction paper strip detailing the A-13685 / A-13686 PR matrix/lyric fixes.
- Vinyl Disc (Audio & Visual): EXCELLENT (EX). The vinyl is beautifully preserved, retaining a deep, glossy, mirror-like factory shine. Under bright grading lights, it reveals only a couple of completely faint, non-feeling paper wisps from sleeve removal. It has been carefully play-tested and delivers a blistering, dead-silent Mono performance with rich low-ends, clear acoustic transients, and virtually no background floor noise. It plays like a dream!
- Gatefold Album Cover: POOR (P). The cardboard jacket shows severe vintage wear, including heavy ring wear, corner rounding, edge chipping, and notable seam splitting. However, all promotional and historical stickers are completely intact and structurally secure.
- Storage: Housed safely in an archival poly outer sleeve in a smoke-free, climate-controlled collector environment.
