redgarnett Store ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This handsome and outstanding 3LP stereo box set from Spanish Telefunken (6.35450-1/3, Spanish pressings, blue label, stereo, original inner sleeves and booklet included) features Janos Starker and Rudolf Buchbinder's masterly traversal of Beethoven's complete works for cell and piano, taped in October 1979, and very much a landmark in the discographies of these pieces.
Starker has quite justifiably called Buchbinder "one of the great pianists of our time", and his sparkling pianism and wonderfully finished technical address go with Starker like hand in glove, a true musical partnership that pays enormous dividends throughout their cycle.
Included in Starker and Buchbinder's cycle were the following works:

Cello Sonata No. 2 in G minor Op. 5 No. 2
Cello Sonata No. 3 in A Major Op. 69
Cello Sonata No. 4 in C Major Op. 102 No. 1

Seven Variations on the Duet 'Bei Mannern, welche Liebe fuhlen' WoO 46 from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute
Twelve Variations on a Theme from the Oratorio 'Judas Maccabaeus' WoO 45 by G.F. Handel
Twelve Variations on the Theme 'Ein Madchen oder Weibchen' Op. 66 from Mozart's opera The Magic Flute
The recorded sound is of demonstration quality, well capturing Starker's distinctive tone, the two players ideally balanced in a warm acoustic – hear these works for the first time!
Included is a full-size, 4-page booklet with extensive notes (uncredited), printed in Spanish only.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the box is near-MINT. There is minor shelfwear, but really that is all. There are no corner breaks, seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the whole remains extremely solid, bright, and attractive. Overall, a superb collector's copy.
The condition of the full-size 4-page book is similarly near-MINT. The pages are bright and crisp, the binding perfect.
The condition of the 3 LPs is near-MINT throughout and they play without defect – again, superb collector's copies.
PLEASE NOTE:
This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
