Description
In this auction:
· “THE TRANSFORMED MAN” LP by William Shatner
· This is Decca Records DL 75043.
· It was issued in 1968 and is a STEREO Pressing.
· This is a WHITE LABEL PROMOTIONAL COPY. (Retail copies were issued with a Decca black label with vertical rainbow color bars.) The LABELS are CLEAN and WHITE. There are WHITE “STEREO” STICKERS on each label under the word “DECCA”.
· As you know PROMOTIONAL RECORDS were pressed in very limited (small) quantities and were only made available to special people in the recording/entertainment industry and to the DJs at the Radio Stations for on-air play. This makes them VERY sought after due to their rarity (access and limited quantities).
· Of course, we tend to remember William Shatner in his role as Capt. James T. Kirk of the Starship Enterprise on both television and the motion picture screen. His versatility as an actor has led him to other roles such as a policeman as T. J. Hooker on the “Hooker” Television series” and on “Boston Legal”.
· This LP has Shatner reading various classical and popular pieces accompanied to orchestral music at times.
· This LP has become best known for Shatner’s very melodramatic delivery of “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” from The Beatles’ “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” LP. Also noteworthy is his interpretation of Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man”. His classical recitations include “King Henry The Fifth”, “Hamlet”, and “Romeo And Juliet”. (Please refer to images of the labels or rear cover for the complete listing of tracks on this LP).
· The COVER is in VG CONDITION. The primarily black front cover was notorious for easily showing wear, and it’s a tough one to find without wear. This front cover has light ring wear that really doesn’t detract from the image of William Shatner in the center. There is some light to moderate corner wear. There is very light wear on the seams and spine which are strong. The primarily white rear cover is quite CLEAN and WHITE aside from an old price, “99¢”, written in black crayon or marker.
· The VINYL is also in VG CONDITION. There are primarily some light surface hairlines/scuffs, and the vinyl has lots of gloss. There are just a couple of small “feel-able” hairlines that cause some popping on part of the “Romeo And Juliet” track and part of “The Transformed Man” track.
· This LP comes with its ORIGINAL DECCA PAPER INNER SLEEVE.
“The Transformed Man” LP has been reissued on new vinyl. HOWEVER, in this auction is the ORIGINAL 1968 PROMOTIONAL ISSUE from more than 50 years ago. It’s a TRUE PIECE of VINYL STAR TREK HISTORY!
