Description

Stanley Cowell - Musa   orig. Strata East !!!

Strata East SES-19743 orig. US from 1974, fold-out cv M-/M-
Stanley Cowell was one of the founders of the Strata East label. The name gets lots of hype in the beat digging community, but I’ve never quite figured out why. Like Black Jazz, Strata East was a collective of Jazz musicians who appreciated the spiritual side of music. Almost every Black Jazz album has at least one good Soul-Jazz song, you can’t say that about Strata East however. Musa is pretty straight ahead solo Jazz piano by Cowell. Travelin Man is the best track on the album because Cowell’s playing on the electric piano accompanied by an African thumb piano that gives it a real nice and soulful groove to it.
