Up for sale is a pretty nice copy of a hard to find early, 10 inch, mono vinyl record by a master jazz saxophonist.  This album was made "under the personal supervision of Norman Grantz" and features a jacket with art by renowned artist David Stone Martin!

Stan Getz (birth name Stanley Gayetski) was born in Philadelphia in 1927.   Starting in the 1940s, he had a highly successful career with big bands and then in his own ensembles.  In 1943, he joined Jack Teagarden's band, with Teagarden becoming legal guardian of the 16 year old musician.  He would subsequently play with Lionel Hampton, Stan Kenton, Jimmy Dorsey, and Benny Goodman.  In 1947, Getz joined Woody Herman's band, where the saxophone section consisted of Serge Chaloff, Zoots Sims, and Herbie Steward (plus Getz).  They became known as "The Four Brothers".  After leaving Herman in 1949, Getz pursued a solo career, and the album I am selling is from this early period.   Getz was known as "The Sound" for his warm lyrical tone on the tenor saxophone.  He would go on to be highly influenced by Latin music, introducing the bossa nova to America.  He died of liver cancer in 1991, aged 64.
