Description
Extremely rare and sought after LP from the Belleville IL group Spur. I talked with Stix Maxwell many years ago about this LP. The group had been inspired by Sgt Peppers as a lot of bands were, and endeavored to procure a 4-track recorder (since Peppers was recorded on a four track as well!). They found an Ampex 1" machine at the local military base and were on their way. They recorded a lot material and mixed this LP together at a time when the underground psych rock radio station KSHE in St Louis (one of only a handful in 1968 on the FM dial) would actually play it! The record was pretty successful in the St Louis area, selling a few thousand copies at local shops and at shows. The hit song was "don't ever trust a woman (with your weed)" a country-ish ballad, al a sweetheart of the rodeo. The rest of the LP is decent with some obvious crappy medleys of covers from their early bar band days, and some truly inspired folk-psych. Two of the members are now gone (Stix being among them), and this one is actually autographed on the shrink wrap from Stan Bratzky (may have gotten the spelling wrong).
This LP sells for upwards of 150 in DECENT condition. I have never heard of, nor seen a sealed one being sold. This could be the last sealed one, period! The condition is well-stored, perfect mint. Good luck and thanks for your bid!
